Oscar headed Chelsea in front of Liverpool on Sunday as the teams met in a key English Premier League match at Anfield.

The visiting Blues, needing a win to keep pace with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the Premier League's top four, went ahead in the 26th minute when Oscar headed in Juan Mata's corner.

Oscar, a 21-year-old Brazil international midfielder, escaped from Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher with a late run and sent his header in the net off goalkeeper Pepe Reina's hand at the near post. Before the play, Carragher appeared to converse with fellow defender Daniel Agger about who should mark Oscar.

The goal appears below in GIF form.

The goal could prove important for Chelsea. With Arsenal beating Fulham 1-0 on Saturday and Tottenham Hotspur coming from behind to defeat defending champions Manchester City 3-1 on Sunday, the Blues needed a victory of their own from Sunday's trip to Anfield.

Before kickoff, Chelsea trailed Arsenal by two points for third place. The Blues had played two fewer matches than Arsenal. Tottenham Hotspur were level with Chelsea on 61 points, having played the same number of matches before Sunday.

The goal was Oscar's second of the season in the Premier League. He previously scored in Chelsea's 8-0 demolition of Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in December.
