When it comes to the world of sports every athlete may feel the need to have a ritual to bring luck to their game to ultimately succeed in their respective sport.
The list goes on of rituals that make young to pro athelet's think they will be number 1 and win. From wearing the same sock's on game days without ever washing them, wearing the same brand sport's gear, always traveling with an just strange object's( rabbits foot, four leaf clover, and other random object's) but some take it just a little step further.
But in two recent interview we have learned of two new ritual's that has fight fans still saying huh. Machida and Overeem have revealed two secrects to their training diets one like's to continue the tradition of drinking pee.
"My father does that for a long time and bring it to us. People think it’s a joke (laughs). I never said it in the United States because I don’t know how the fans will react (laughs). I drink my urine every morning like a natural medicine.” Said, Machida on posted on MMAfrenzy.com.
While the other changed their whole life style and ditched vegetable's for a big helping of horse meat.
I changed my diet, I changed my coach and when I really think about it – I changed everything. From my girlfriend to my training and diet. Before I ate a lot of vegetables that are healthy but contained little energy. Now I mainly eat a horse meat, rice and protein shakes. I got rid of my old coach who was in charge of my fight strategies. It simply wasn’t working. I just started to think about what do I had to do to become a better fighter.” Said Overeem, posted on MMAfrenzy.com.
But do these rituals actually work? Overeem is currently bulked up and is the current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, and the Lyoto Machida has been on an impressive roll which ultimaltly provided "The Dragon" with a title shot against Rashad Evans at UFC 98.
So that leads me to this
The Showdown: War of the Weird Rituals
Tyler- I would like to thank both of you Machida and Overeem for stopping by for my latest The Showdown. I can't wait to get this started.
Machida- I would like to thank you for having me again I love being here. I didn't think I would be back for this specific topic though (laughs).
Overeem- I would like to thank you also but I am just going to get right to it, my "ritual" if you like to call it that actually benifits me, it give's me energy, I don't know what the heck he is thinking (Machida) he is just plan nasty.
Machida- Like I said before this has been passed down through my family, it gives you back the nutrients that get cleaned out of your body.
Overeem- Nutrient's what the heck are you talking about, did you know horse meat contains 20% more protein than high quality beef cuts, 25% less fat, nearly 20% less sodium, double the iron and less cholesterol. When compared to ground beef, horse meat has 55% more protein, 25% less fat, 30% less cholesterol and 27% less sodium. When you drink your pee your not gaining nothing back at all this is why I am a champ and your not.
Machida- First I would like to say pee, pee the more you drink the much more stronger you will be (sing along type fashion), and your the champion of wait (scratches head and thinks) what is that company called oh I am so sorry Strike force. I am on the big stage and at UFC 98 I will become a champion and you'll see how pee work's for me. What specific part of the horse do you eat Overeem?
Overeem- Oh I see were your going ha, well will see if you become champion, will see and I eat lean cut's of the horse but if you want to try some I have a very special cut I would love for you to try.
Machida- Well I feel my urine will give me all the energy I need, so I will pass on your "SPECIAL" offer. But maybe I can whip you up some fresh pee Tyler, do you have a tall nice glass, because Overeem ground game is piss poor so he might as well drink some ah?
Tyler- No sorry Machida I do not have that available now but, it look's like we are running out of time would either of you like to give your last word's.
Overeem- Well Machida I have been working on all aspect's of my game and I don't need you to worry about that, but maybe we could one day find out whose "RITUAL" reign's supreme.
Machida- Well I hope we do get a chance to meet in the octagon one day, but in the word's of Dave Chappelle if we do meet "I will pee on you" (laughs) all jokes, just jokes hope their is no offense.
Overeem- Nope none taking, funny stuff but your still nasty.
Tyler- Now that end's another great The Showdown, now it is up to you who ritual do you think actually work's? Let the voting begin.
See you next time on The Showdown.
