Big news for fans of Shawn Michaels, as it appears that HBK will be going on the road with WWE for three dates in May (per WrestleZone.com):
John Cena will be missing three consecutive WWE live events next month on 5/24, 5/25 and 5/26, and the company has announced that Shawn Michaels will be replacing him. Other talent scheduled for the events include The New Age Outlaws and Chris Jericho.
It should also be noted that all of those dates are taking place in Canada, and as of the publishing of this article, there has been no word as to why Cena will be unavailable for those dates.
That being said, he is a workhorse for the company, so taking three days off here and there isn't exactly the end of the world.
Yes, he is the company's champion, but you should keep in mind that WWE still managed to do well during a recent run of live events without The Rock while he wore the company gold. I think WWE will have similar success here—especially since Michaels will be helping out during that time.
Ultimately, there was no word as to why Michaels was chosen over a semi-active star. Don't get me wrong, Michaels has staying power and can still draw at the box office. However, the last time I checked, he was officially retired. So that leads me to wonder if this marks the beginning of a part-time comeback for the WWE Hall of Famer.
Overall, the article did not reveal reveal much on how WWE plans on using HBK. The chances of him wrestling at this point are still 50/50.
Having said that, I would rather have seen Brock Lesnar take the reins for this run considering he is still an active wrestler and currently has a reason to be touring with the company.
In the end, I am certain that Michaels will do his best to shine in whatever role he is given during this stint, so enjoy it if you have the chance.
