Big news from the WWE front as it appears that a former WWE and World champion may be on his way back to the company.
This news is pretty significant considering the star in question has been out of action for close to three years. Since his departure, he has been involved in several movie projects and even made an attempt at an MMA career.
Former WWE Superstar Dave Batista has been working to get back into wrestling shape, and is fast approaching his 290-pound billed weight during his last run with WWE. The former 6-time World Champion left WWE in 2010 to pursue his interests in acting, as well as a career in Mixed Martial Arts.
Batista has said in recent interviews that he is interested in returning to the WWE, and listed part-time workers such as The Rock and Brock Lesnar as potential opponents. With the future of the planned Rock/Lesnar match currently unknown, it is possible WWE would push to bring back Batista to fill the role of Dwayne Johnson, who was injured in his WrestleMania match with John Cena.
Now, I highly doubt that The Animal would come back and work a full-time schedule. Simply due to the fact that he has been involved in several high-profile films and is slated to play a significant role in Marvel's Guardians of Galaxy, which is scheduled for production this summer.
Compile that with the fact that Batista is in his 40's and has done all there is to do in the WWE, leaving no reason for him to be more than a part-timer.
That being said, I am truly not sure how much of a pop he would receive if he were to return. However, I do feel that a match involving both him and Brock Lesnar could be epic. Overall, both men are intense in the ring and could prove to have a solid bout against each other.
To me, the two would need to have a match at one of the WWE's "Big Four" pay-per-views, and with SummerSlam right around the corner, we could easily see this happen sooner than anticipated.
Let's just hope that the Marvel flick will begin shooting soon. As this would allow Batista a real chance at getting back in the mix before the annual summer extravaganza. Keep in mind; SummerSlam is already booked to be live from Los Angeles, Calif.
Which to me seems like the perfect opportunity for Batista to return—especially if the movie is wrapping up around then.
Now, I must remind you that this is just a rumor and he is currently not confirmed for anything. However, the WWE has done a solid job at bringing back some of its younger stars from the past and giving fans some great content.
So, who knows what the company has up its sleeves.
