Despite all the things that has happened in this year's tournament, history is ready to be made as all four top seeds have survived the long stretch. This weekend promises to deliver some severe punches as two teams will come up short while the other two will set up the ultimate showdown.
It's the perfect ratings hit!
Here's the rundown on the throwdown in San Antonio.
#1 Kansas Jayhawks vs. #1 North Carolina Tar Heels
Whoever made this bracket knew what they were doing. Roy Williams takes on the college where he is still a legend at. After having a war of words with Coach K and Duke, Williams now has a showdown with the Kansas Jayhawks.
This game will come down to who will have enough stamina because this game will definitely go back and forth and down to the wire. Points in the paint will be a major key to victory as well as physical defense. Bill Self's team barely got past Davidson to get to the Final Four, but the dynamic duo of Darrell Arthur and Brandon Rush have enough raw talent to hang with the Tar Heels.
The equalizer: Tyler Hansbrough. He's the reason that the Tar Heels are looking at another national championship. He is also the reason that they have been able to practically dominate their opponents throughout the tournament. If anyone is expecting fireworks, then look no further than this game. Kansas wants some respect and beating Roy Williams might be just what they need.
Unfortunately, Bill Self won't be ready for the unbelievable talent of Hansbrough. Carolina wins this game and punches their ticket to the Monday Night Mayhem.
Final Score: Tar Heels 91, Jayhawks 87
#1 UCLA Bruins vs. #1 Memphis Tigers
For the last two years, the Bruins have been the proverbial female dog for Florida. These guys have come up short two years in a row thanks to the Gators. But this year is different. The Gators are not in the dance. They couldn't even hang with UMass in the NIT Tournament.
That's good news for UCLA because they have its third straight opportunity to claim the biggest prize in college sports. Thanks to Darren Collison and Kevin Love, the Bruins are back in the Final Four. The bad news: their opponent.
Just like the Gators of yesteryear, the Memphis Tigers have quietly become a big deal. Though everyone has been giving this year's championship to UNC, Memphis has something to say about that. With their silent but deadly assassin, Derrick Rose, the Tigers are eyeing a trip to the title game. Like Kobe and LeBron, Rose has become the field general of this Memphis army, and his supporting cast is playing just as big a role as he is.
This will be a dogfight considering UCLA almost didn't make it to the show. After a lot of close calls this season, the refs will have to actually call this one down the middle. Otherwise, expect a riot on Beale Street Saturday night. Memphis wins and UCLA's streak of "close but no cigar" continues.
Final Score: Tigers 81, Bruins 74
Saturday night will be filled with cheers, jeers and tears. Can Roy Williams dispatch the upset minded Jayhawks?
Will UCLA finally break their curse?
Can Memphis finish what they started?
Does anyone have a ricola?
Okay that last one was worthless...but randomness is why these guys play the game.
Saturday. Fatal Four. Game On! The Real Fun Begins!
