To Gramps: My First Home Run
My first home run, It was so much fun
Watching it fly over the fence
My dad was there, In that mid-June air
At home plate we celebrated.
My friends were waiting, To give me five
And my coach said, with a smile
Way to go young man.
A little boy, filled with joy
Brought that ball back to me
I held it tight, with all my might
One person I wanted to see
Just down the road, my Grandpa you know
He will be proud, my dad told me so
I busted in, with a monstrous grin
And went to his drawer, to grab a pen
To put my official stamp on it.
The date and year, I put them here
But more importantly, This prideful thing
I wrote on it, the following
-YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN HIS FACE-
“To Gramps My First Home Run
From Me To You With Love, ACE”
He Passed Away, A Few Years Back
It doesn’t take much, to hear him laugh
And when he left, I put the ball in his lap
With him it will always stay.
