After missing out on the WrestleMania 29 card this year, Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay and Tensai) and the Funkadactyls beat Team Rhodes Scholars (Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow) and the Bella Twins via a clean pin on Monday night's Raw.
While hardcore fans across the world scoff at the outcome of this match, this was just another way to keep the younger demographic happy during the three-hour Raw programming.
It’s clear that while Clay was formerly billed as a monster heel, the fact that he has gotten over so well as a face has really been great for him. People can say what they want about his character being a joke, but he is on TV every week despite missing WrestleMania.
The addition of Tensai to this tandem was perfect—Lord Tensai was floundering in a comeback to the WWE—and together, Tons of Funk is off to a great start in the tag team division.
As for The Funkadactyls, the duo of fresh faces looked great in the ring against The Bellas, adding the perfect complement to the Tons of Funk tag team.
The next likely step for Clay and Tensai should be an eventual shot at the tag team championships. While the duo doesn’t have to win the straps, Tons of Funk has the sheer size to make any team look good beating them.
For Rhodes and Sandow, the fact that each was left off the WrestleMania card makes this loss even tougher to swallow and calls the future development of the pair into question.
There is no certainty to whether or not Team Rhodes Scholars will stay a tag team, but the duo should be booked consistently as singles or a tag team coming out of Monday's show.
The Bellas may have taken the loss on Raw, but the fact that they were brought back at all proves they will play a role on television in secondary storylines for the next few months at least.
Overall, it was a fun match that got the crowd excited and the smarks mad.
