The phrase "life imitates art" often pertains exactly to the pro wrestling business.
Indeed, there have been a few times where the bookers have scripted romance angles between two performers, only for a real romance to blossom off-screen. Hey, WWE might want to get into the online dating business, because it does have a shockingly good track record of getting people together.
With this in mind, here are the top five couples who got together in real life after they were paired together in the storylines.
In late 2004, former Team Angle member Charlie Haas was teamed with the flamboyant Miss Jackie and Rico (remember him?) over on the SmackDown brand.
It may have seemed an odd pairing for the previously serious tag team wrestler, but what do you know? Haas and Jackie's on-screen flirtations carried over to off-screen and the pair were soon engaged, marrying in July 2005.
Eight years later the two are still going strong and, as Diva-Dirt notes, recently welcomed their fourth child into the world.
OK, so the late-2010, early-2011 romance angle with The Bella Twins and Daniel Bryan was pretty bad. Especially when WWE threw in the supposedly shocking twist that Bryan had been secretly dating Gail Kim and stringing the girls along.
Has any WWE couple ever looked less into each other than Gail and Daniel? That was Natalie Portman/Hayden Christensen levels of uncomfortable.
But real emotions did blossom between Brie Bella and Daniel, and the two have been steadily dating for a while now, as TMZ and various other outlets have confirmed.
In 2009, fans were given a compelling storyline that saw The Miz attempt to seduce gorgeous Diva Maryse Ouellet. Per the angle, Miz was doing everything he could to impress the French-Canadian and rack up as many victories as possible.
The two would continue to interact on-screen in 2010 and a mutual attraction was obvious. Ultimately, though, the angle never want anywhere. The Miz continued as a solo act and Maryse was paired with Ted DiBiase Jr. later in the year.
Of course, Miz and Maryse soon got together in real life and recently announced their engagement.
Hah. And they say WWE doesn't do any long-term payoffs in storylines anymore.
Bodybuilding star Joanie Laurer debuted for the then-WWF in February 1997 as manager/enforcer to up-and-coming heel Hunter Hearst Helmsley, aka Triple H.
At the time the two were a unique pairing in wrestling, with the scary, muscle-bound Chyna being as far away from the pretty-and-petite Divas, like Sunny and Sable, as you could get.
Soon the pair become romantically, as well as professionally, involved too.
Sadly, things didn't work out for the pair, and it appears Laurer has little good to say about her former boyfriend.
Of course, he moved on. Which brings us to...
Ah, these two may be the most prominent example of "life imitating art" in wrestling.
In 1999, Stephanie McMahon was shockingly married on-screen to Triple H, with the two becoming one of the most dominant heel couples in WWE history. Of course, the marriage was a stormy one, partly due to Stephanie's bratty and outrageous behavior, and the two acrimoniously parted ways in 2002 in a wacky wedding renewal.
Off-screen, however, things went a lot more smoothly. The pair, who fell in love during the initial romance storyline, have been married in real life for almost a decade and now have three daughters.
