Nebraska Makes Big Jump in College Baseball's Top 25
Arizona State remained at No. 1 after sweeping Pac-10 opponent USC. The Miami Hurricanes moved up two spots, followed by ACC foe North Carolina which remained at No. 3. The Missouri Tigers fell two spots after losing their weekend series against Texas Tech. UC-Irvine moved up two spots after winning their weekend series against Cal Poly.
Florida State moved up two spots to No. 6 after taking the weekend series at Wake Forest. Cal made a four spot jump after sweeping (then No. 5) Long Beach State over the weekend. Both Vanderbilt and South Carolina moved up one spot after winning their SEC weekend series. Long Beach State dropped five spots to No. 10 after getting swept by Cal.
Nebraska made the biggest jump, eight spots up to No. 11, after taking the weekend series against (then No. 13) Texas. Wichita State and Stanford both moved up four spots after winning their weekend series. Virginia moved up seven spots to No. 14 after sweeping Virginia Tech over the weekend. Rice fell three spots after losing the weekend series to Southern Mississippi.
Texas fell three spots to No. 16 after losing the weekend series to (then No. 19) Nebraska, followed by San Diego at No. 17. Arizona made the biggest fall with 12 spots after losing two to Oklahoma State, and two of three against (then No. 23) UCLA. Florida moved up five spots to No. 19 after winning the SEC series against LSU. UNC Wilmington is new to the Top 25 this week after sweeping Virginia Commonwealth.
Kentucky dropped three spots to No. 21 after losing its weekend series against (then No. 10) South Carolina. Michigan moved up three spots to No. 22 after sweeping Iowa. UCLA remained No. 23 after splitting their four games. Coastal Carolina dropped two spots while Cal State Fullerton returned to the Top 25.
Ole Miss (then No. 15) dropped out of the Top 25 after losing their weekend series against Alabama. Baylor (then No. 20) also dropped out of the Top 25 after losing their weekend series against Oklahoma.
Ole Miss @ Alabama:Ā Ole Miss was able to prevent the sweep by taking the Sunday game, but loss their second straight SEC weekend series.Ā Alabama won their second straight SEC weekend series and is now in a three-way tie for first in the Western Division.
Tennessee @ Auburn: Ā Auburn won the rubber game on Sunday to claim their second straight SEC series win.Ā Tennessee has lost two series in a row and is now tied for last place in the Eastern Division.
Arkansas @ Vanderbilt:Ā Arkansas lost the first two games; the third was cancelled due to rain.Ā Arkansas still has not won a SEC weekend series.Ā Vanderbilt is 2-1 in SEC series and is all along in fourth place of the Eastern Division.
LSU @ Florida:Ā The Tigers were able to prevent the sweep by taking game three, but Florida remained perfect in SEC series, and are now all alone in first place in the SEC Eastern Division and overall.Ā The Tigers are 1-2 in SEC series, and are all alone in fourth place of the Western Division.
Georgia @ Mississippi State:Ā Georgia joins Florida as the only two teams to have won every SEC series this season.Ā Georgia lost Friday, but rebounded Saturday and Sunday to win the series and place them in a four-way tie for second in the Eastern Division.Ā Mississippi State is still searching for their first SEC series win.Ā State coach Ron Polk announced his retirement at the end of the season.
Kentucky @ South Carolina:Ā The Gamecocks bounced back after losing Friday nightās game, to win the series, their second straight.Ā The Wildcats have cooled off after their hot start, losing their last two weekend series and four of their last seven games.
