Secret Life Of a Pro-Wrestler, Personal Experience Part 14: Destiny Kid!
The Secret Life of a Pro-Wrestler is back. With so much drama going on here in the Wrestling Section and of course WWE Draft articles, I felt I should hold off on it for a few days.
But now it is officially back, we left of with me about to take on the Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels. Now, it was only going to be a 6 to 7 minute match at best. But of course Michaels could have gone longer.
However we were going to be on late in the show, so there would only be around that much time in the first place. So that is the main reason why, but we were going to see HBK in FCW, so that was cool enough to me and of course the fans.

Now to Part 14
It was the day of the FCW show. I still did not have a title, but since I was starting to get more respect and have been in FCW for close to a year at this point. My push was deserved.
I was still not in the World Title hunt yet, but if I could manage to impress a bit against Michaels, then maybe they will allow me into the World Title spotlight.
I was going to be in a Tournament a while back, but I got on the wrong track. So I had to get back on the right one. And I felt I could with a good showing against Michaels. And I think the writers thought the same thing.
Now, I was not going to win. To make the match a surprise, Michaels was going to be wearing street clothes rather than in ring gear. I was going to come out and interrupt him while he was addressing the fans.
I was going to come out as a Big HBK fan, and ask him to have a match with me. I would kind of press him into it a bit. Call him an old man, and say he may not have it anymore, which of course would get the fans on his side, and make him want to take me on. Enough for now though, you'll find out more in the show itself.
We were going to be in the last segment of the night, we were going to have a 15 to 18 minute time clock. That was all that was left in the show, but it depended on how much time everyone else took in the show itself to see how much time we had.
We would have a few minutes for the talking segment, and a few minutes for the match itself. I was just hoping we had enough time, as was management.
Showtime
I was waiting for my segment when Michaels came up to me. He said that it was an honor to be in the ring with a guy of my skill. And that I could easily be called up in a little while if I continued to show the ability he has seen in the past from me.
He said that when he was coming up, he was apart of a tag team. He did a singles wrestling, but tag team wrestling was where he liked to be to begin with. Then he felt as if he could be in the singles spotlight.
We all remember when he threw his partner Marty out of his life, literally. He said the moment I did that, I knew that the fans were going to be against me, which was not a problem.
The problem was the adjustment to singles after such a long time in the tag team division. He said he and Marty are still good friends and his success was much better, but Marty was the guy he always thought was the better of the two.
This of course was something you'd expect Michaels to say. He said he thanks God all the time that he had success in the wrestling industry. When Marty did not do well and left the WWF at the time, he thought he was going to be let go.
He said since he thought Marty was so good, he was down on himself. Because he thought if he was gone, he could be too. So that made him work harder to prove himself. And that is why he feels he had the success he has.
He said you have it all, and all you have to do is prove you’re as good as anyone else out there.
I was excited to hear that from him above all people. Because he is a Legend in this business, and knowing he was just like me at one point in his career was just amazing to hear.
I mean we all know everyone had to work their way up, but actually hearing a story like that from HBK was awesome.
We were approached by one of the writers; he told us that our segment needed to be cut down about 4 minutes. They had to fit in the other matches, and since some ran over we had to suffer for it.
This meant we had to keep the dialogue, but take out a bit of the match. We discussed which parts we would take out, and put everything together.
Now it was finally time for us to go on. Of course Michaels would go out first, and then I would come out.
As soon as HBK's music hit, the crowd jumped to their feet. It was obvious that Michaels was loved by the WWE fans. But of course he had been out of action for a little while now.
He had been off WWE TV for a few months and was just making his way back, so this is the first time WWE fans had a chance to see him. So the excitement was bigger than usual.
Here was his promo.
"Hey guys, it’s nice to be back in the ring. I have been out for a while now, at the hands of a certain man named Ted Dibiase."
(Incidentally, Dibiase had been getting huge over at this time, and had an epic match with Michaels in which Michaels suffered an arm injury.)
(Shawn was scheduled to take time off anyway. The injury he suffered was not too bad; he could have been back from it easily within 3 to 4 weeks. Creative decided to make a storyline with his injury so they could use it after he returned.)
(Ted and I don't go back to far, but his father and I do. Enough about him though, I will get my revenge soon on you Dibiase, you can make sure of that. But it is great to be in FCW again.)
"This is the 3rd time I have been here standing in this ring in front of all you people. I love this place, so many things here for the young superstars. I didn't have near as much when I was coming up that is for sure. And I have to say...."
My music hit
I was still a fan favorite, so I did get cheered coming out. Which was nice, but of course they may be booing me shortly. Here was our segment.
I grabbed a mic and proceeded to talk
Joe: Shawn Michaels, The Heart Break Kid, Mr. Wrestlemania!! Big fan, big fan
HBK: Well thank you
Joe: Ya, I remember growing up watching your matches and things you did in the WWE. Coming down from the rafters, the ladder matches, and the Ironman match. You revolutionized wrestling to make it what we know and love today.
HBK: Oh, stop it. Ya, but you forgot when I screwed Bret Hart in Montreal
Joe: True, True. That’s right
HBK: Well I have heard of you too, I mean you talk about me being the Heart Break Kid. You’re Less than a God, but more than a Man. You’re a former Tag Team Champion. You have taken on all comers, and spit in the eye of people bigger than you.
Joe: That is right, that is right. This is why I have an offer for you
HBK: And that is?
Joe: One match, me and you. Old School vs. New School, what do you say?
HBK: I don't know Joe, what do you fans think?
Fans: cheer cheer cheer, DO IT!! DO IT!!
Joe: Come on Michaels, if you feel you can't take it. I mean I know you’re getting up there in age so...
Fans: booooo
HBK: Ha ha, you got spunk kid. Let’s do it, come on, get me a ref out here.
The ref comes out and calls for the bell. Now at this point we had less time than what we planned out before. Instead of 6 to 7 minutes for the match, we had about 4 to 5, which meant we had to cut some moves out of the match.
I kicked HBK in the mid section. I began to punch him until he went towards the ropes. I did an Irish Whip to the other side. I went for the Clothesline and missed.
HBK then comes back at me and hits me with his patented jumping punch. He bounces right back up and starts to set me up for the Sweet Chin Music. I get up and he goes for it, but misses.
I come back with the clothesline and connect. He is on the ground, and I hit the standing shooting star press. Go for the pin, 1..2..kick out.
I get him up and get him ready for a DDT. He slips out and kicks me in the mid-section. He hits a tornado DDT. He goes for the pin, 1...2..kick out.
He picks me up and goes for the suplex. I slip out and hit an Impaler.
I run towards the turnbuckle and go for the Halo!(Moonsault) but he rolls out of the way.
He stands up and I am starting to get up too. I come toward him and he seems groggy, and all the sudden Sweet Chin Music!
HBK wins
He grabs a mic
Shawn: "Not bad for an old man huh?"
He goes to the back, and soon I get up and go back too.
Once I get there, Michaels sees me and hugs me and says good match kid! I loved every minute of it.
You showed some serious ability out there, even though we had to cut a few things. Hopefully one day we can do this in front of 19,000 people or so. I'm gonna talk to a few people for you.
You keep at it, and like I said before you could easily see a main roster spot soon. Man, this is your Destiny.
Hearing the complements from Shawn Michaels was so cool, still astounded by all of them.
I told him thanks for all of the help; he said anytime and then walked out.
If Shawn Michaels believes in me, and I have the writers on my side, then why can I not be successful? I could be called up the main roster soon, this seemed like the first time I said it out loud.
I had to continue to tell myself that. Pride may go before the fall, but confidence may still keep you up right.
I had to from now on be the best I could possibly be every match. Take risks I normally wouldn't and push every limit.
It was time to take a risk, but what would it be and when?
