Les Miles and the LSU Tigers are already off to an exceptional start to the 2014 recruiting cycle.
Miles got more great news this weekend when he received a verbal commitment from Pearland, Texas wide receiver Tony Upchurch.
The 6'1" Upchurch was recruited primarily by LSU wide receivers coach Adam Henry, according to Rivals.com.
Adding Upchurch now gives LSU a total of seven verbal commitments for the 2014 class. He is the first wide receiver prospect to commit to the Tigers for 2014.
While Upchurch does not currently have a star ranking, according to Rivals.com, he joins a class filled with five 4-star prospects.
Rivals.com also describes Upchurch as a physical wide receiver with good size. He is listed at 219 pounds, which is somewhat large for a wide receiver, and could have many wondering if he may make the transition to tight end at some point later on in his LSU career.
Upchurch told reporter Mike Scarborough of TigerBait.com that LSU head coach Les Miles extended the scholarship offer back in his sophomore year.
The Tigers recently added four wide receivers to their 2013 recruiting class, but expect them to take at least one or two more in this 2014 class, in addition to Upchurch.
Either way, adding a talented wide receiver to this 2014 class is certainly a big win for Les Miles and his LSU coaching staff.
Get excited, LSU football fans; it looks like you have another good one coming to Baton Rouge.
