The Anquan Boldin-Eagles Rumors Gain New Life
Do you want to see this in blue for the next six years? Yeah, me neither.
Look, I am as sick of this as you are.
I am tired of the teases. The Cardinals have stated repeatedly that they are not interested in trading Anquan Boldin, no way, no how.
ESPN’s John Clayton reports that Arizona is now willing to entertain offers for their unhappy All-Pro wideout.
Clayton added on SportsCenter this morning that the Giants and Eagles are the frontrunners to land him.
I nearly fell off the elliptical at the gym.
Here is a list of reasons why it is critical to the long-term success of this franchise to make this deal.
So the Giants don’t get him.
That’s it. That’s the list.
There is no need to talk about Boldin’s greatness. It has been well documented.
Here is the overriding factor for me: Last year, he caught 89 balls for 1,038 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Not only would that have made him the Eagles' top receiver, it would have been one of the best single seasons ever for a Philly wideout.
Oh, did I mention he missed four games, including two for a broken jaw?
A broken jaw only cost him two games!
The bottom line is, the Eagles need to sign Boldin to keep him away from the Giants.
I have been stumping for Braylon Edwards in this very space, but that is only because the Cards have said that Boldin wasn’t going to be traded. Now that has changed.
I am not one of those guys who bashes the Eagles receivers (much).
I believe that, as a group, they are the best in the NFC East right now. In fact, outside of the T.O. year, it is the best group that Super Five has had since he has been here.
With a healthy Brian Westbrook and a TE who actually knows how to play the position (read: not L.J. Smith), they are in good shape.
I don’t think they really need Boldin.
I think the Giants do desperately.
With the loss of Plaxico “Six Shooter” Burress, the Giants need a wide receiver.
After years of Burress ripping out the hearts of Eagles fans, this team cannot afford to let Boldin go to the Giants and replace him.
The Giants are not a playoff team without Burress. With Boldin, they are in the mix for the Super Bowl.
So are the Eagles.
Yes, the price will be steep. It will cost a first and a third. But the Eagles have 12 draft picks, including two in the first round. Throw in Reggie Brown, I don’t care. Get it done.
They have to do this. They have to keep him out of New York. Let the Giants overpay Torry Holt or Marvin Harrison.
The Eagles need to overpay for Anquan Boldin.
