NFL Trade Rumors: Updates on Leaguewide Chatter

Matt FitzgeraldJun 3, 2018

The 2013 NFL landscape has been shaken up very recently by trades involving big-time playmakers in Percy Harvin and Anquan Boldin (via ESPN). Those two big splashes just ahead of free agency should only be the beginning, as the rumor mill is buzzing with trade rumors about several other marquee stars.

With the Seattle Seahawks landing Harvin and the San Francisco 49ers acquiring Boldin, the NFC West has clearly been the busiest division between those moves and the Niners' trade of Alex Smith. That division may not be done if the latest buzz is any indication, but other teams are sure to jump in too.

Here is the latest chatter from around the league, as teams make big pushes to upgrade their rosters.

Darrelle Revis

A lot of speculation is stirring about the New York Jets star and there seem to be plenty of franchises interested in acquiring Revis' services.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News has the latest as of Tuesday and it looks like Revis will be shipped out of town sooner rather than later:

"

The Daily News has learned that Gang Green is poised to trade the Pro Bowl cornerback in the coming days at the right price in its first significant step to re-build the franchise.

Sources have told the News for weeks that owner Woody Johnson has no intention of signing Revis to a long-term contract extension.

“I think (the Jets are) going to move Revis,” a source familiar with the situation told the News on Tuesday. “Bet it. If he isn’t traded by tomorrow, (general manager John) Idzik is an idiot. One buyer might dry out. He has to move him. The risk of keeping him kills the franchise for five years and Idzik is gone.”

"

A source tells Rich Cimini of ESPN New York that the Denver Broncos are interested in making a move for Revis. Cimini also notes that Revis receives a $1 million roster bonus if he's still with the team by next Saturday.

However, Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post disagrees, citing his own sources that say Denver has no interest.

"

I have known many in this business for a long time and respect them immensely, but the Broncos have NO intention of acquiring Revis.

— Jeff Legwold(@Jeff_Legwold) March 10, 2013"

Arguably the best cornerback in the NFL, Revis is coming off a torn ACL that caused him to miss most of the 2012 season. That doesn't seem to be discouraging the market for him, though, as a trade seems imminent.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are particularly thin at corner and very interested in Revis (per the Tampa Bay Times' Stephen F. Holder).

Arrelious Benn

Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times indicates that Benn is on the block.

"

Bucs are shoppifng WR Arrelious Benn, former second-round pick.

— Rick Stroud (@NFLSTROUD) March 11, 2013"

Benn should be expendable for general manager Mark Dominik after Vincent Jackson's big year, Mike Williams' solid play and an injury-shortened 2012 campaign. What's great about Benn for potential suitors is that he's only 24, has great size and is dangerous after the catch.

There should be some interest, although Benn hasn't lived up to his billing as a second-round pick and has been passed on the depth chart by his teammate Williams, who went in the fourth round in the 2010 draft.

Percy Harvin

3 of 5

Although he wasn't meant to leave the Minnesota Vikings due to an unfulfilled contract, Harvin was clearly disgruntled with the way things were going.

Ironically, he was shipped off to the Seattle Seahawks, as reported by FOX Sports' Jay Glazer. When the Vikings played in Seattle last season, their playmaker was knocked out for the season due to injury.

Now, some more light has been shed on the details of the Harvin move, as reported by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports:

"

Expect Percy Harvin, acquired in trade by the Seahawks on Monday, to do better contractually than anyone in this free-agent class. He has already agreed to a new deal with Seattle that league sources said is worth in excess of $12 million per year.

"

La Canfora expects more trades due to the underwhelming nature of the free-agent class, and since Harvin's deal was on the basis of a new contract, it seems he'll cash in more than anyone at his position.

Leon Washington

Due to the Seahawks picking up such a lucrative deal for Harvin, it will be more of a struggle to get below the salary cap.

The front office is reportedly exploring a trade involving dynamic running back and kick returner Leon Washington, according to La Canfora:

"

As the Seahawks reconfigure cap and budget following today's blockbuster trade for Percy Harvin, they're shopping return man Leon Washington

"
"— Jason La Canfora (@JasonLaCanfora) March 12, 2013"

As Spotrac.com points out, Washington would be on the books for $2.875 million, but would only be $750,000 in dead money.

LeGarrette Blount

5 of 5

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers don't necessarily need Blount anymore. Given the one year left on his contract, his young age and the emergence of 2012 first-round pick Doug Martin, there should be a market for him, according to La Canfora:

"

Rather than place a second-round tender on Blount -- a former 1,000-yard rusher who played sparingly in 2012 -- which would have protected him as an asset in Tampa Bay and effectively prevented other teams from acquiring him, the sides agreed instead to a deal that, with incentives, is worth more than the $2 million second-round tender.

"

Blount is a powerful back who isn't necessarily good at catching the ball out of the backfield, but could help teams in need of a punishing, between-the-tackles runner.
