Fans Will Have to Wait a Little Longer for Final Opening Day at Yankee Stadium

The Ghosts of Yankee Stadium are not ready for the Stadium’s final sendoff, as the skies opened with tears of sadness raining down on the Bronx.  Yankee fans will have to wait another day before the 2008 Campaign. The game will be rescheduled for April 1st at 7pm.

Even though fans will have to wait another day, there is still something that can be said for the electricity generated by the fans at night games.  Emotions will definitely be on high, and the adrenaline of the home team must get to perennial Cy-Young candidate Roy Halladay early.  The right-hander only was only 1-0 against the Yankees last season, but due mostly to his bullpen.  In 22 innings he allowed only 6 earned runs, and Yankee hitters hit a measly .221.

The Blue-Jays if healthy, can be a contender in the AL East this year but have been already bitten by the injury bug.  Closer B.J. Ryan is still rehabbing from his Tommy John surgery and new acquisition Scott Rolen will be out until at least May with a finger injury.

Chien-Ming Wang must right the ship against a Blue Jay team that beat him up in 2007.  He was 0-2 allowing 12 runs on 22 hits in only 17 innings pitched.  But he was also 10-4 with a 2.75 ERA in 111.1 innings at Yankee Stadium in 2007.  Wang has won 19 games in each of the past two seasons but has had his struggles during the Playoffs leading some to question his ability to be the “Ace” of this staff.

Of course the pitching will have a great amount of support from their offense.  A team which has a number seven hitter coming off a .338 season with 20 home runs and 90 RBI, in Jorge Posada is going to produce.  He should be able to set the table nicely for number eight hitter Hideki Matsui, and give the opportunity for Melky Cabrera to pick up a bunch of RBIs out of the nine hole.

The anticipation for Opening Day is reached an extreme high, and why shouldn’t it be for the beginning of the final season at Yankee Stadium.  Tomorrow night’s game will be one for the record books no matter what the final score may be.  But it is certain the spirit of Yankee Greats will be running through the stadium’s walls bringing the Stadium back to life after the long winter.
