Brent Musburger has been the object of a lot of jokes since his comments about Katherine Webb during the BCS National Championship game on January 7. Frankly, they’ve gotten stale.

His comments weren’t offensive, and while some people chose to ridicule Musburger for his very public admiration of Webb’s appearance, there’s really nothing more to it than people wanting to make a story out of nothing.

Musburger didn’t cross any lines—in fact, he’s part of the reason Webb has experienced such a meteoric rise in the last five weeks. From television interviews to the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Webb has been in the spotlight, and she’s appreciative of the role Musburger played in getting her there.

She made an “official statement” to Musburger on the Dan Patrick Show Tuesday:

Thank you for everything you've done and for helping my career and helping me make a new life for myself. I was in Los Angeles and I was already modeling before, so all of this stuff that I’m doing is not a strange thing to me. I was actually having a hard time in Los Angeles booking jobs. After all this happened, people started calling.

Webb’s recognition of Musburger’s role in helping her career was a classy move, not only because it should serve to quell some of the negative attention he received from his comments, but also because it shows how humble she is in spite of all the attention she has received.

Since the national championship, Webb has done a number of interviews, served as a correspondent for Inside Edition at Super Bowl XLVII, filmed a reality show and appeared in the SI Swimsuit Issue (h/t Yahoo Sports). Her rise has been truly meteoric.

It’s hard to imagine Webb fading from the spotlight in the near future. The former Miss Alabama USA and current model has been a topic of discussion since her brief time on camera during the title game—she’s taken the fame and run with it.

Webb could have shrugged her shoulders and disregarded the role Musburger played in her recent popularity, but she didn’t. Webb gave him credit and thanked him, proving she’s classy enough to warrant such fame.
