NCAA Tournament: All-Sweet 16 Team

(Following up an article highlighting the top performances in the second round.)

Sorry for the delay in getting this out, but there is really no downtime between the Sweet Sixteen and the Elite Eight, is there?

The glass slipper seems to be the perfect fit for the Davidson Wildcats. They not only upset the three-seeded Wisconsin Badgers, they embarrassed them.

Friday was a day of upsets, with Memphis, Texas, and Kansas also winning in convincing fashion.

Winners on Thursday included Louisville, North Carolina, UCLA, and Xavier.

Now to the top performers of Thursday and Friday...

Guards

Stephon Curry, Davidson

Once again, this young guard found a way to bring his tenth-seeded team to victory. Curry scored 33 points and had four assists, four rebounds, and three steals in the win over Wisconsin.

He put the CBS production crew in a difficult situation by making them decide which of his countless great plays to play on the highlight reel.

Despite being guarded by defensive shut down player Michael Flowers, Curry shot almost at will. He is averaging over 33 points this tournament, and is shooting around 52 percent from the three-point line.

All this from a sophomore!

D.J. Augustin, Texas

How Augustin managed to have another great game driving to the rim despite the Twin Towers (Brook and Robin Lopez) blocking his path every drive, I'll never know.

Augustin had 23 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals in the victory over Stanford. He continued to show us that he is the leader of this team, and should follow in former classmate Kevin Durant's footsteps.

Forwards 

Josh Duncan, Xavier

The 6'9'' senior from Ohio only averaged 12.4 points per game in the regular season, but he reached a career high the other night.

Duncan scored 26 points and grabbed five rebounds in his Musketeer's victory over the West Virginia Mountaineers. The tall Duncan also surprised people by hitting three of four three pointers.

Kevin Love, UCLA

Another monster game from Love. Now to the weather...

It almost seems like that, doesn't it? Love scored 29 points, snagged 14 rebounds, dished out four assists and had four blocks, but still seemed to be overshadowed this Sweet Sixteen round. 

While this kind of production may be expected now from the freshman, it is not going unappreciated.

The UCLA Bruins are headed to the Elite Eight and are going to face the Xavier Musketeers on Saturday.

Bench 

Earl Clark, Louisville 

How can you write an article like this and not mention Earl Clark? Clark put up 17 points, 12 boards, four blocks and two steals in the victory over Tennessee the other night.

Having a bench player like Clark is definitely something that many coaches dream about.
