ANAHEIM, CA - AUGUST 24: (L)Justin Morneau #33 of the Minnesota Twins is congratulated by teammate Jason Kubel #16 after hitting a homnerun in the sixth inning against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Angels Stadium on August 24, 2008 in Anaheim, California. Twas' the eve of the last season opener and all through the dome,
Getting ready for the move to Target Field, the Twins' 2010 home.

The banners in right field, hung with great care,
In hopes that Joe Mauer may soon be there.

The fans young and old, "Go Twins!" they said,
While visions of the World Series danced in their heads.

With my brosef in his Mauer jersey and I in my cap,
still whipping the soda off my freshly wet lap.

When out over the tarp their rose such clatter,
I sprang from my seat with a loud chatter.

A line drive down the line, Gomez circled first in a flash,
followed swiftly by Morneau's towering smash.

The roof on the Metrodome, protecting from early April snow,
obstructing the vision of poor fielders circling below.

When, what to 93,128 wondering eyes should show,
but the Minnesota Twins and three All-Stars named Joe.

With a man on the mound, so filled with gusto,
I knew in a moment it must be Fransisco Liriano.

With fans so appreciative and selling out tickets, they came,
as they whistled, and shouted, and called them by name.

Now, Gomez! Now, Casilla! Now Crede and Punto!
On, Young! On, Span! On Kubel and Morneau!

To the top of the home run porch, over the right field baggie, the ball did soar
"Were gonna win Twins! We're gonna score!"

Two World Titles in the Dome from '82 to '09
When it became just too old for the Twins to get by.

The Twins grabbed their bats, their balls, their gloves,
and will migrate to a stadium with cold skies above.

And then the loud crack heard the Dome around,
as every young fan perked their heads to the sound.

Carlos Gomez leaped to rob a homer with a bound,
all fans let a gasp with immediate astound.

But as spring training now ends, the Twins are heading northward tall,
"...home of the brave! Now let's play ball!"
