3 Reasons to Book Luke Rockhold vs. Vitor Belfort
Strikeforce is no more. The organization folded, and many of its top talent has made its way to the UFC.
The list of import fighters includes Gilbert Melendez, Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold among others.
Rockhold was the organization's middleweight champion and is a very skilled fighter who holds a record of 10 wins with only a single loss.
With Rockhold moving to the UFC, they would need to find a solid opponent for him to fight in his first UFC bout.
How about longtime fighter Vitor Belfort?
In the following slides, I will outline a few reasons why Rockhold vs. Belfort is the fight to book.
A Classic Strikeforce vs. UFC Fight
People have been wondering for years how top Strikeforce guys would do against their UFC counterparts.
This fight would be one easy way to settle that little dilemma.
Rockhold is a former champion. Belfort is too, albeit in a different weight class.
Let these guys fight to see exactly what you're dealing with in terms of these Strikeforce imports. Fans will finally get a chance to see if these Strikeforce guys are the real deal.
Who knows, some of them may just surprise you.
A Good Indicator of Where Rockhold Will Stand in the Division
This slide directly relates to the previous slide.
Rockhold was a champion in Strikeforce. He defeated a very good fighter in Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza to win the title.
He then defended the belt twice—once against Keith Jardine and the latest coming against Tim Kennedy.
Those are some good names to have on his resume, but he is still unproven against UFC talent.
If he were to fight Belfort, and depending on how he would perform, that would be a solid indicator on if he will do well in the UFC or not.
Both Fighters Are Elite and Entertaining
If there is one thing you can say about both of these fighters, it's that they are entertaining and always bring the intensity.
Rockhold is 10-1 in his career with eight of those wins coming by either submission or knockout.
His last stoppage came when he knocked out Keith Jardine to defend the Strikeforce middleweight belt.
Vitor Belfort holds a career record of 22-10 with 18 of those wins coming from stoppages.
Belfort most recently knocked out Michael Bisping with a nasty head kick and follow-up punches.
Both of these guys would provide a great fight for fans to watch and enjoy. They both have elite skills and are basically guaranteed to put on a show.
Hopefully, we see this matchup in the near future.
