Victor Moses scored two late penalties to book Nigeria’s place in the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations.
Nigeria struggled to create chances in a game they needed to win but the Chelsea winger was twice tripped in the box and coolly converted both the penalties he won.
Ethiopia’s keeper, Sisay Bancha, was sent off for the second penalty and as all three substitutions had been made, midfielder Addis Hintsa went in goal for the 90th minute penalty and for the seven minutes of injury time.
After a dull opening hour the game became stretched when both teams pushed for a victory and Moses used his pace to full effect as he took advantage of the extra space afforded him.
The result meant that Nigeria qualified along with Burkina Faso from Group C, and current holders Zambia have been eliminated.

Moses showed in the closing stages of this match that he has the ability to be the exciting attacking player that Nigerians have been searching for since the Jay Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu era.
It took courage and a lot of mental strength to take the two penalties, knowing the hopes of a nation were on his shoulders.
Moses, who has dual nationality and could have played for England, will need to be at his best if Nigeria are to overcome Ivory Coast. As a team they didn't show enough maturity to suggest they can beat a team as strong, organized, and experienced as Ivory Coast.
Ethiopia can be proud of their performance today. Even when they were down to 10 men and the game seemed lost they attacked and had two great chances near the end.
Thanks for staying with us today. Bye.
