With just four days left in the January transfer window, West Ham United became the latest EPL club to bring in a player to help improve their league finish.
On Monday night, the Hammers brought in defender Emanuel Pogatetz in on loan from Wolfsburg.
The 30-year-old Austrian has been playing in Germany since he left Middlesbrough in 2010.
Pogatetz joined Wolfsburg in the summer after spending two seasons with Hanover in the Bundesliga.
This season with the 13th-placed club in Germany, Pogatetz has made eight appearances at center-back.
The reason for the lack of playing time is the duo of stellar center-backs in front of Pogatetz at Wolfsburg: Naldo and Simon Kjaer.
Pogatetz will bring plenty of experience to the back four at Upton Park that contains players like James Collins, Winston Reid, Guy Demel and Joey O'Brien.
Pogatetz will compete with Reid and Collins for a starting spot at the center-back position.
The Austrian international defender becomes the fifth player to join the Hammers this January.
Pogatetz joins fellow loans Marouane Chamakh and Wellington Paulista as well as permanent signings Joe Cole and Sean Maguire as another one of the new faces being introduced at Upton Park in the past month.
The defender does have experience playing in England as he spent five seasons with Middlesbrough—four of which were spent in the EPL.
Pogatetz has also played in 52 matches for the Austrian national team since 2002.
