BREAKING NEWS: Bobby Knight to Become Head Coach of Georgia Bulldogs Basketball

APRIL FOOLS DAY!

Sorry, I know it's a day late, and wish I would have thought of this yesterday!

The real story on Georgia's basketball coach search:

Ok, so here's the real deal.  Word is that Damon Evans is heading up to Detroit today to continue the search for a suitable coach for Georgia's basketball team.

I've been writing about how I believe Billy Gillispie is the perfect candidate for the job, and I've gotten mixed reviews from those who agree, and from those who would like to hang me at the stakes.

Anyway, here's how I see it!

Georgia men's basketball program needs shock treatment in the extreme kind of way.

A coach that, when looking at the stats, is someone you can say, "yeah, he is a pretty good coach" isn't going to be the shock treatment that Georgia needs.

Georgia needs someone who of course knows how to coach a team to the big dance, but they also need a coach that has the charisma and marketing power to draw in big crowds.

I just don't see how a coach that no one has ever heard of is going to do that for the Georgia basketball program.  Unless of course the outlook is 3 - 5 years down the road.  But that's not giving the Georgia basketball program the respect it deserves.

Look at how Kentucky approached the whole deal.

They said, "we need a program that is the absolute best in the country, and one that fans absolute pack into stadiums to see, both for home and away games."

And here's the most critical mindset I'm getting at here.  Kentucky sees this as something, "WE NEED TO HAPPEN TODAY!"

If not Billy Gillispie, then perhaps we need to offer the job to Bobby Knight.  Doesn't he have one of the best records of all coaches in college basketball?

Again, charisma, marketing power, and drawing in the media and fan base, all while winning games, is what Georgia needs to get to the same level as the Georgia football program.

P.S.  Did you like my April fool's joke???
