0 of 26

The future of the Alabama Crimson Tide football program just got a whole lot brighter thanks to Nick Saban's 2013 recruiting class.

The Crimson Tide went out and dominated on the recruiting trail, and the fruit of their labor is a class that has elite potential.

One of the reasons Alabama has been able to sustain such a high level of success is because of recruiting, and this year is no different. Many of these recruits will be the next players to step up in the coming years and fill the proverbial shoes of the stars in front of them.

Many of these players have the potential to be stars themselves.

Let's get to know Alabama's 2013 recruiting class.

    Weight: 277 lbs.

    Position: WDE

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Muscle Shoals High School (Ala.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: Auburn, Miami

Commit Date: Feb. 6 at 12p.m. ET

    Analysis

Dee Liner is an extremely talented defensive end. He has good size and will be able to control the edges of the line of scrimmage, but he's also fast enough to be a great pass-rusher. He runs a 4.86 40, according to 247Sports.

He projects to play as a 3-4 defensive end in Alabama's system. He's strong enough to maintain gap responsibility but athletic and quick enough to be a big-time pass-rusher.

Reuben Foster

4 of 26

    Height: 6'1''

    Weight: 240 lbs.

    Position: ILB

    Star Ranking: 5-star

High School: Auburn High School (Ala.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: Georgia, Auburn

    Commit Date: 2/4

    Analysis:

Reuben Foster is going to be a superstar linebacker at the college level. He has tremendous size coming out of high school and plays very strong against the run. That said, he can also be a sideline-to-sideline defender because of his speed, and he'll be very comfortable dropping back into pass coverages. Foster runs a 4.60 40, according to 247Sports.

Derrick Henry

5 of 26

    Height: 6'3''

    Weight: 240 lbs.

    Position: RB/ATH

    Other Finalists: Tennessee

    Commit Date: September 28, 2012, Enrolled: January 8, 2013

    Analysis

Derrick Henry has the potential to be a superstar running back for Alabama. He has the size of an elite outside linebacker and the speed of an elite running back. He runs a 4.54 40, according to 247Sports

Henry is a very powerful runner who can be a featured back between the tackles, but he can also bounce it outside on the edges and make big-time runs with his speed. He'll also be a running back who can be effective out of the backfield as a receiver.

Henry will be the first running back from this class to find playing time, but even he may have to wait for the depth chart (Rivals) to clear a bit.

Robert Foster

6 of 26

    Height: 6'2''

    Weight: 185 lbs.

    Position: WR

    Star Ranking: 5-star

High School: Central Valley High School (Pa.)

    Senior Stats: 45 REC, 756 YDS, 14 TD, 67 RUATT, 459 RUYD, 12 RUTD

    Other Finalists: Pittsburgh

    Commit Date: December 21, 2012

    Analysis

Robert Foster has the potential to be a great receiver for Alabama, and he can even become a featured receiver in time. He's also one of the bigger commitments to Alabama's class—ranked as the No. 3 wideout, according to the 247Sports Rankings.

Foster has good size and great speed (4.49 40, according to 247Sports). He'll be a receiver who can spread the defense vertically as a deep threat, but he can also play in the slot and be effective on short and intermediate routes as well. He'll also be able to make something happen after the catch. Expect Foster to quickly become the No. 2 receiver for Alabama.

O.J. Howard

7 of 26

    Height: 6'5.5''

    Weight: 221 lbs.

    Position: TE

    Star Ranking: 5-star

    High School: Autauga Academy

    Senior Stats: 13 REC464 YD, 5 TD (via maxpreps.com)

    Other Finalists: Auburn

    Commit Date: July 18, 2011, Enrolled: January 8, 2013

    Analysis

O.J. Howard is going to be an elite tight end at the college level. He's big enough to stay home and block at 221 pounds, and that will be important in Alabama's scheme. He also has tremendous speed (4.42 40, according to 247Sports), so he'll be a legitimate deep threat for the Crimson Tide.

Howard will present a size mismatch against smaller corners and safeties, and he'll be a speed mismatch against linebackers in the middle of the field.

Jonathan Allen

8 of 26

    Height: 6'3''

    Weight: 260 lbs.

    Position: OLB

    Star Ranking: 5-star

High School: Stone Bridge High School (Va.)

Senior Stats:  119 TCK, 8 SCK, 6 FF

Other Finalists:  Florida, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State

    Commit Date: May 21, 2012

    Analysis

Jonathan Allen is going to be a marquee defensive player for Alabama. He has good size at 6'3'', 260 pounds, and he projects to be a force coming off the edge of Alabama's 3-4 defense. Allen could end up being the perfect player to be a star at the "Jack" linebacker position.

He's the No. 3-ranked outside linebacker recruit and the No. 13-ranked overall player, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Allen could be a legitimate starter by his sophomore season, if not before.

Cooper Bateman

9 of 26

    Height: 6'3''

    Weight: 195 lbs.

    Position: QB

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Cottonwood High School (Utah)

    Senior Stats: 180-of-342 passing, 2,384 YD, 15 TD, 7 INT, 82 RUATT, 277 RUYD, 12 RUTD

Other Finalists: Auburn, Florida, LSU, Washington

    Commit Date: May 16, 2012, Enrolled: January 8, 2013

    Analysis

Cooper Bateman has all the intangibles that you look for in a young quarterback. He has good size for a quarterback coming out of high school, and he has very good speed. He runs a 4.70 40, according to 247Sports.

He has an extremely strong arm, and he'll be able to make any throw on the field at the college level. He's a good candidate for a redshirt right off the bat. In time, Bateman could be the future quarterback of this program.

Altee Tenpenny

10 of 26

    Height: 5'11''

    Weight: 212 lbs.

    Position: RB

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: North Little Rock High School (Ark.)

Senior Stats: 1,379 YD, 21 TD, 135 RECYD, 2 RECTD

    Other Finalists: Arkansas

    Commit Date: January 28, 2012

    Analysis

Altee Tenpenny will be a very versatile back for the Crimson Tide, and he has a very bright future. He can be a powerful runner, and he has the size to be very effective in between the tackles. Tenpenny can also be a very effective receiver out of the backfield, though Saban and the Crimson Tide may want to consider giving Tenpenny a redshirt considering the crowd at running back.

Maurice Smith

11 of 26

    Height: 5'11.5''

    Weight: 178 lbs.

    Position: CB

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Dulles High School (Tex.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

Other Finalists: Florida, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma

    Commit Date: June 8, 2012

    Analysis

Maurice Smith is going to be one of the more important commitments from this 2013 class. He's a big-time cornerback commit, and Alabama was able to recruit him out of Texas. As you can see above, there were a ton of major programs after his commitment, so the Crimson Tide have to be feeling good to have landed the talented corner.

Smith is ranked as the No. 9 cornerback in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He'll be an important player in Alabama's secondary in the future.

Tim Williams

12 of 26

    Height: 6'3''

    Weight: 225 lbs.

    Position: WDE/OLB

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: University Laboratory School (La.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: LSU, Miami

    Commit Date: January 14, 2013

    Analysis

Tim Williams is an elite defensive end recruit who will most likely have to move back to outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense. That said, he projects to be elite on the edges of the 3-4. He has good size at 6'3'', 225 pounds, and he could end up being a premiere pass-rusher for Alabama.

Grant Hill

13 of 26

    Height: 6'6''

    Weight: 300 lbs.

    Position: OG/OT

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Huntsville High School (Ala.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: Auburn, Georgia

    Commit Date: February 22, 2012

    Analysis

Grant Hill is an extremely important commitment for 2013, and he projects to be a future star on Alabama's offensive line. He has great size at 6'6'', 300 pounds, and he's versatile. He's ranked as a guard, but he can also play tackle because of his size.

Hill is the No. 2-ranked guard, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. I'd expect him to learn behind Cyrus Kouandjio in hopes of being his eventual replacement.

Leon Brown

14 of 26

    Height: 6'6''

    Weight: 310 lbs.

    Position: OT

    Star Ranking: 4-star

School: Parkdale High School (MD), JUCO: Asa College (N.Y.)

    2012 Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: Kansas, Ole Miss

    Commit Date: November 10, 2012, Enrolled: January 8, 2013

    Analysis

Leon Brown is going to be a big part of this class because of his size and experience. He has great size at 6'6'', 310, and he's a very highly-ranked JUCO recruit.

Brown is considered to be the No. 1 overall JUCO offensive tackle recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He'll be a very valuable recruit in regards to depth on the offensive line, and he has great potential because of his size. Brown will be behind Cyrus Kouandjio, Austin Shepherd and Brandon Greene on the depth chart.

Eddie Jackson

15 of 26

    Height: 6'1''

    Weight: 175 lbs.

    Position: ATH/CB

    Star Ranking: 3-star

High School: Boyd Anderson High School (Fla.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: LSU, Florida State

    Commit Date: January 30, 2013

    Analysis

Eddie Jackson may only be a 3-star recruit, but he's a big commitment for Alabama. He has great size at 6'1'', 175 pounds, and he projects to be a very good secondary player, especially at corner. Where he'll really stand out is with his speed. Jackson runs a 4.38 40, according to 247Sports. He could end up being a surprise star from this class.

Raheem Falkins

16 of 26

    Height: 6'4.5''

    Weight: 195

    Position: WR

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: G.W. Carver High School (La.)

Senior Stats: 47 REC, 1,058 YD, 14 TD

Other Finalists: Tennessee, Illinois, Colorado, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State

    Commit Date: January 28, 2012, Enrolled: January 8, 2013

    Analysis

Raheem Falkins has a ton of potential as a receiver because of his height. At 6'4'.5'' he has great height, and that will allow him to be a good deep threat for the Crimson Tide, especially on jump balls. He has very good hands and will be able to go up and high-point the ball. Falkins also projects to be a big-time option in the red zone and could become a great third option for Alabama down the road.

Brandon Hill

17 of 26

    Height: 6'6.5''

    Weight: 390 lbs.

    Position: OT

    Star Ranking: 3-star

School: St. George's Independent School (Tenn.), PREP: Hargrave Military Academy (Va.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

Other Finalists: Ole Miss, Mississippi State

    Commit Date: December 25, 2012, Enrolled: January 8, 2013

    Analysis

Hill is a very important commitment for the Crimson Tide, and he has great potential as an offensive lineman. His size is obviously a huge draw, and at 6'6.5'' and almost 400 pounds, he's a very big recruit.

He probably won't play near 400 pounds, but either way, his size alone gives him immense potential. Hill is the No. 1-ranked prep. school offensive tackle recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Right now, he's going to be an important depth player behind Leon Brown.

ArDarius Stewart

18 of 26

    Height: 6'1''

    Weight: 190 lbs.

    Position: ATH/WR/KR

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Fultondale High School (Ala.)

Senior Stats: 1 PRTD, 1 KRTD, 1,932 RUYD, 35 RUTD

    Other Finalists: Clemson, Utah

    Commit Date: January 28, 2012

    Analysis

ArDarius Stewart may make his biggest impact as a kick returner for the Crimson Tide. He's listed as an athlete, as he can also play receiver, quarterback and defensive back. His elusiveness, speed and running ability give him the potential to be a very effective kick returner, although it wouldn't be surprising to see him utilized as a slot receiver as well.

Parker McLeod

19 of 26

    Height: 6'3''

    Weight: 190 lbs.

    Position: QB

    Star Ranking: 3-star

High School: Walton Senior High School (Ga.)

Senior Stats: 5-for-10 passing, 85 YD, 1 TD (maxpreps.com) *Injury

    Other Finalists: Oklahoma State

    Commit Date: November 8, 2012, Enrolled: January 8, 2013

    Analysis

Parker McLeod is a very interesting quarterback prospect, and at the very least, he'll be a quality backup for the Crimson Tide. He missed a ton of time in his senior year because of an ankle injury, so there are a lot of unknowns regarding his true potential.

That said, he has good size, and the fact that he enrolled early will give him a bit of an edge experience-wise within the program. Bateman projects to be the star quarterback from this class, but McLeod is still a very important addition in regards to depth.

Tyren Jones

20 of 26

    Height: 5'8.5''

    Weight: 202 lbs.

    Position: RB

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Walton Senior High School (Ga.)

Senior Stats: 1,682 YD, 16 TD

    Other Finalists: Georgia

    Commit Date: February 21, 2012

    Analysis

Tyren Jones projects to be a very good change-of-pace back for the Crimson Tide. He's not all that big at just 5'8.5'', but he's quick and he displays great shiftiness and vision as a runner.
Jones would be a great candidate to get a redshirt in his first season, if only to create some space on the depth chart for him in the future.

Darius Paige

21 of 26

    Height: 6'4''

    Weight: 295 lbs.

    Position: DT

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Foley High School (Ala.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: Florida State

    Commit Date: May 19, 2012

    Analysis

"Potential" is the keyword in regards to Darius Paige. He has very good height at 6'4'', but he's not yet big enough to play the 0-technique in the 3-4 defense. Realistically, he should probably gain about 10-20 pounds of mass if he wants to really excel as a nose tackle for Alabama.

Paige is a recruit to keep an eye on in the next few years. He could develop into a star, and thankfully, Alabama shouldn't have to rush him onto the field.

Anthony Averett

22 of 26

    Height: 6'1''

    Weight: 180 lbs.

    Position: S/CB

    Star Ranking: 4-star

High School: Woodbury High School (N.J.)

Senior Stats: 70 TCK, 5 INT

Other Finalists: Wisconsin, Tennessee, South Carolina

    Commit Date: April 14, 2012

    Analysis

The Crimson Tide will be getting a versatile and talented defensive back in Anthony Averett. He'll be able to play either corner or safety, though if he doesn't bulk up much more, he'll probably be a better fit at cornerback in the SEC.

He's a big out-of-state commitment for Alabama, and he has very good speed. He runs a 4.45 40, according to 247Sports. Look for him to be a valuable backup as a corner right away.

Jonathan Cook

23 of 26

    Height: 6'0''

    Weight: 183 lbs.

    Position: CB

    Star Ranking: 3-star

High School: Spanish Fort High School (Ala.)

Senior Stats:  81 TCK, 7 INT

    Other Finalists: Nebraska

    Commit Date: December 15, 2012

    Analysis

Jonathan Cook is an important in-state prospect for the Crimson Tide, and he has good potential. He's actually a former Nebraska commitment, so he'll go down as an important recruiting win for Saban and his staff. He runs a 4.51 40, according to 247Sports.

Right now, Cook is a depth player at cornerback.

Bradley Bozeman

24 of 26

    Height: 6'4.5''

    Weight: 305 lbs.

    Position: OG

    Star Ranking: 3-star

High School: Handley High School (Ala.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: N/A

    Commit Date: June 8, 2011

    Analysis

Bradley Bozeman has been committed to Alabama since 2011, so he's displayed some excellent patience, to say the least. He may have to have a little bit more, though, as he looks to be a good recruit to redshirt right away.

He suffered a season-ending knee injury his senior year, tearing his ACL, so that extra year of rehab and strength conditioning will be very important.

Walker Jones

25 of 26

    Height: 6'3''

    Weight: 238 lbs.

    Position: ILB/FB

    Star Ranking: 3-star

High School: Evangelical Christian School (Tenn.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

Other Finalists: Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Nebraska

    Commit Date: July 23, 2012

    Analysis

Walker Jones may only be a 3-star recruit, but he has excellent potential. He has great size for an inside linebacker, and he also has excellent speed. He runs a 4.60 40, according to 247Sports.

He has all the intangibles that you look for at his position, so now it's going to come down to coaching up his potential. He can even be used as an H-back in Alabama's offense, and that may be where he's best suited when all is said and done. Either way, Jones could end up being one of the surprise stars from this class.

Cole Mazza

26 of 26

    Height: 6'2''

    Weight: 241 lbs.

    Position: LS

    Star Ranking: 2-star

High School: Liberty High School (Calif.)

    Senior Stats: N/A

    Other Finalists: UCLA

    Commit Date: June 14, 2012

    Analysis

If Cole Mazza does his job well, this may be one of the last times you see his name outside of the game-day program and graduation list. Frankly, I don't think he'd have it any other way, because when you're a long snapper, you don't want people to know your name. If they do, chances are something went wrong with your snap.

That said, Mazza projects to be very good at his role for Alabama. He's the top-ranked long snapper recruit for 2013, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He's also a former UCLA commitment, but Alabama got him to flip.
