According to Wikipedia:

"Kentucky is known as the 'Bluegrass State,' a nickname based on the fact that bluegrass is present in many of the lawns and pastures throughout the state. It is a land with diverse environments and abundant resources, including the world's longest cave system, the greatest length of navigable waterways and streams in the Lower 48 states, and the two largest man-made lakes east of the Mississippi River.

Kentucky is also known for thoroughbred horses, horse racing, bourbon distilleries, bluegrass music, automobile manufacturing, tobacco, and college basketball."

Here in the hallowed halls of Adolph Rupp, the man who resisted the urge to integrate his program with what he thought were inferior players he may coach. Let Pat Riley tell you how that ended up for them.

John Calipari will have no issues in attracting top blue chip basketball players.

I can see the Soprano's suddenly deciding to send a contingency from New Jersey to setup shop in the ahem...bluegrass state. The draw of Kentucky bourbon, mint julep, thoroughbred horses, and, of course, the two pizanos who live down the lane will be too much to resist.

Finally, the biggest egos in college coaching basketball may have landed in the same state.

College basketball needs this as the original blue-bloods the Duke Blue Devils bloodlines have been thinned. They hold on to their past glories with the ultimate rivalry game in college basketball Duke vs. North Carolina. This game has lost some of its luster.

Now the nouveau riche has invaded the upper echelon of college basketball, the deep red of Louisville Cardinals and Kentucky Blue will give us an inter-conference rivalry for the ages with Rick Pitino and Calipari at the helms.
