Minnesota Twins Fans Ready to Start Final Season In Dome

kevin roseMar 31, 2009

The day is coming upon us in less than a week to renew our opening day superstitions and traditions, say goodbye to Dome in its last season, and start to welcome the Twins into their new home of Target Field. The optimism is anew again as the team gets ready to take the field.

With the lineup being solidified this offseason and the bullpen being restocked, it looks like Gardenhire has his best cast of characters yet to fill the roster.

With choices galore to finish off the roster, this season looks to be a promising one to build off the experiences of last season. The youth movement that was started last year with the pitching staff turned out to be an excellent decision, with each member gaining valuable innings and starts with many positive events taking place.

Even with the season ending in disappointment, there is a a great outlook for this season due to last season's dismay. The starting staff received some valuable work, as most of them worked valuable innings never experienced before as they each showed nerves of steel on the mound in tough learning situations.

The offense excelled last season, scoring runs in abundance. Upon the arrival of Dennard Span and Alexi Casilla making a permanent spot in the lineup, the organization was able to flex some muscle in the batter's box instead of using the past approach of small ball.

With that experience and the ability to rotate the outfielders and keep them fresh and healthy, this team is built to slug out games instead of grinding them out. Past Twins teams would wait for the other team to make a mistake and take advantage of it, but this offense is starting to get the "catch me if you can" syndrome by being able to have runners cross the plate in abundance.

So, Twins fans will start the final season in the Dome in two weeks. I believe this year will be a successful campaign and we can look forward to being able to play games well into October, which would give the dome a proper send-off. Imagine the scene of the players trotting around the field as they win the title at home with everyone waving their hankies in both happiness and sadness.

Let's bring on the season and enjoy these times while they last. Go Twins!
