"Somebody said that we're not in President Obama's Final Four, and as much as I respect what he's doing, really, the economy is something that he should focus on, probably more than the brackets."
It's been the rallying cry of every Republican politician for the past few weeks.
It's almost as if President Barack Obama is being painted as a lazy chief-of-staff, someone who is more concerned about his "brackets" than working Americans.
So who provided this infamous remark? Who would dare say such an outrageous thing?
Rush Limbaugh. It had to be Rush, right? No?
Then it definitely had to be Ann; this has "Coulterism" written all over it.
Maybe it was Savage; OK, you're right, too soft to be him.
Just who was it that uttered this phrase?
What? No! It can't be...
You mean Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. The three-time NCAA Men's Basketball Champion, who has 10 appearances in the Final Four and 11 ACC Championships to his name, and is currently the winningest active men's NCAA Division I coach.
This is the Mike Krzyzewski who was responsible?
What has this world come to now, that one of the most respected personalities in all of sports starts talking like an idiot?
Coach Krzyzewski may had made one of the most irresponsible remarks of this generation in criticizing President Obama for filling out his bracket.
Oh, you need reasons why this was a dumb statement?
Amount of Time Involved is Negligible
Coach K, just how long does it take for a President to fill out a tourney bracket?
My guess says, just like everyone else, it takes him 10 minutes max.
President Obama had the White House staff arranged for a 45-minute shoot with ESPN to discuss his bracket. Not even one hour, Coack K, not one hour. I didn't hear you gripe when then President G.W. Bush was playing a round of golf while troops were getting killed in Iraq.
I believe a round of golf last a lot longer than an hour.
Even the President of the United States needs a minute to take a dump, if you understand my meaning. If he wants to use his "off-time" to fill out brackets, that his business and not yours.
Patience Is Necessary
President Obama's economic recovery plan revolves around the passage of both the stimulus bill and his budget. Once the budget is passed, it all becomes a waiting game. Most economists project signs of a turnaround to be apparent by early 2010.
The only issue left for Obama to focus on is the budget proposal, but that's now more of a congressional matter than it is the issue of the administration.
Patience, Coach K, patience.
You Made Yourself Look Silly, Mike
Nobody in their right mind believes that President Obama can fix this economy within the first 100 days.
That "I hope Obama fails" rhetoric belongs to Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the extreme-right commentators. It's their job to entice the weak and stupid into voting against the Democratic party; they will say whatever it takes to get under Obama's skin, and they're not above distorting the facts in order to lure you over.
If you believe that President Obama is not focused on the economy, Krzyzewski, it's probably because you're not as smart as we thought you were.
So with all of that being said, I really have to admit that I got a kick out of K's Dookies losing to Villanova.
Even when Duke beat my Wolverines for the 1992 National Championship, I still had respect for the Blue Devil program, simply because I had respect for Krzyzewski as a coach and as a person.
But after what he said, I had no problem in rooting against him and his players.
To add insult to his injury, Mike's team didn't even make it as far as President Obama had projected.
Barack called you out on national TV, Duke, and said that he hoped you could prove him wrong!
Now it appears that the President overrated the team.
Well, what can you say, folks? I'm sure that as the Blue Devil players began to clean out their lockers, they couldn't help but wonder if they were focused on playing basketball that night against Villanova or too busy worrying about the economy.
Guess that's a question that only Coach K can answer.
But as far as I'm concerned, Mike Krzyzewski needs to hear the same advice the conservative media gave the Dixie Chicks when they criticized G.W. Bush...
"Just shut up and do what you're paid to do!"
In this case, Mike Krzyzewski should focus more on coaching basketball.
