The Georgetown Hoyas men’s basketball team had yet another great season.
The Hoyas Finished up at 28-6 overall and 15-3 in the Big East, only to be to denied the conference title by way of Pittsburgh’s almost flawless play. They were also to be denied a trip to the Sweet Sixteen after Stephen Curry led his Davidson Team to the upset of the Hoyas. The six-foot sophomore had 30 points against the Hoyas, 25 of which coming in the second half.
Not only did the Hoyas prove to be a strong team with the ball in their hands, they were also one of the strongest defensive teams in the country. They tend to “slow the game down” when they are playing defense. They ended up being fifth in the nation allowing just 57.3 points per game. Also, according to espn.com, they “lead the nation in field-goal-percent defense, giving up just 36.4 from the floor.”
Leading the Georgetown team this year was:
Jessie Sapp, a junior, played and started all 34 games. He shot .438 from the field and averaged almost 10 points a game. Sapp played a big part in the game against Villanova in the Big East quarterfinals. The team tied a Big East tournament record with three point shots made. They scored 17 from behind the arc that day. Sapp had 23 points.
Roy Hibbert, the senior leader, gave the team the boost they needed sometimes. He shot 60% from the field, and averaged 13.5 points a game. Anytime Hibbert was out of foul trouble and in the mix, Georgetown was firing on all cylinders. His key performance would have been a season-high 25 points over West Virginia in the Big East semifinal game.
Patrick Ewing Jr., another senior on the team, shot 53% and put up 6 points a game and grabbed a total of 143 rebounds. Along with Hibbert’s 216, they were a force to be reckoned with down low.
Next year looks like another good Hoya team.
Sophomore, Dajuan Summers should get good playing time. Many might have seen his game winning three point shot against Louisville to crown the Hoyas as Big East regular season champions for the second year in a row.
Along with Summers, freshman Austin Freeman played a big role from behind the arc, as they both proved to be strong long-distance shooting players. According to espn.com, another big-time offensive player, Jonathan Wallace has “grown into a smart floor leader who is daring enough to get to the hoop and talented enough to score from outside.”
If the NBA draft doesn’t interest Jessie Sapp and others, the seniors will be strong. Leave it to Coach Thompson to get another team ready for a run at a national championship.

i added that part ... n im fully aware of that ... n hes going to law school at georgetown actually ... and i didnt mean for it to sound like hes comin back, i jus felt it was important to mention him.
