Chelsea Transfer Rumors: 5 Ridiculous Transfers That Will Not Happen
Chelsea may have lots of financial power but there are some transfer rumours that are never going to happen.
In this case transfer rumours involving Chelsea are more comical than anything for a variety of reasons.
While Chelsea has been linked to plenty of players there are some that just won't fit the clubs agenda.
A player may not be needed, may come from a rival or may not be the type of superstar or potential superstar you would expect the club to sign.
The Blues have seen a bit of a transition in recent seasons with an influx of young stars like Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and others.
Those players cost the club a good bit of money and it's unlikely they will shell out major fees for a little. Except, possibly, when Radamel Falcao becomes available.
Here are some ridiculous Chelsea transfer rumours that will never happen, with the least ridiculous first.
5. Alvaro Negredo to Chelsea
1 of 5According to the Daily Mail Chelsea was interested in looking to make a move for Sevilla forward Alvaro Negredo.
Why It Won't Happen
While a move for Negredo would have been practical considering his goal-scoring record, it was never going to happen.
TalkSPORT recently revealed the club's unwillingness to let the player leave.
The club is currently sitting in 14th position in La Liga and will certainly need Negredo's services to avoid the drop and possibly push for Europe.
Chelsea was linked to a number of players of either higher profile or lower cost than the Spanish target man.
They eventually settled on Demba Ba, with the BBC reporting on the confirmed transfer earlier Friday.
4. Wilfried Zaha to Chelsea
2 of 5Wilfried Zaha is currently filling the role of most sought-after teenager in English football.
The Guardian reports that Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are all interested in the Crystal Palace star.
This rumour may not be as ridiculous as others but it is still highly unlikely to occur.
Why It Won't Happen
Zaha has better chances of fitting in at the other three clubs mentioned in the Guardian's article.
While the Blues certainly have the money to tempt the youngster, his concerns from a footballing standpoint will rule them out.
Chelsea has plenty of established stars and youngsters learning their trade abroad to fill any of Zaha's position.
Arsenal and Tottenham could use his services while Sir Alex Ferguson's track record at Manchester United speaks for itself.
According to ESPN.co.uk the Red Devils are currently the front-runners for his signature.
3. Theo Walcott to Chelsea
3 of 5Thanks to his ongoing contract dispute with Arsenal, Theo Walcott was linked (via the Guardian) with a move to Chelsea.
Why It Won't Happen
Goal.com's Wayne Veysey reports that Walcott is closer than ever to signing a new contract.
Any move to Chelsea was a non-issue way before that though. Arsene Wenger would be unwilling to let anymore of his stars strengthen his main rivals.
Were Theo Walcott to leave the club it would be to a foreign league. Walcott himself would likely have problems with a Chelsea move despite the possibility of more time at forward.
Playing for a rival and under the constantly underwhelmed Roman Abramovich would be quite a contrast to his current situation at Arsenal.
Walcott has also yet to consistently show the goal-scoring skills that Chelsea so desperately needs. He has been improving but would not be an ideal candidate for the squad in any case.
2. Leighton Baines to Chelsea
4 of 5Given his contribution to Everton on both ends of the pitch, there will always be interest in Leighton Baines.
According to the Independent Chelsea has joined a host of club's interested in signing the English left-back.
Why It Won't Happen
As stated by ESPN Soccernet contributor Michael Cox, who is also the man in charge of ZonalMarking.net, Everton is the best place for Baines.
Chelsea may offer glitz and glamour, but Everton has continued to improve each year and Baines is one of the key reasons for that.
He may replace or displace his current competition for England's left-back spot, Ashley Cole, but a move to Chelsea isn't favourable.
Chelsea currently has Ryan Bertrand to take Cole's place if the starter leaves and would not want to stunt his growth by keeping relegated to the bench.
1. Paolo Guerrero to Chelsea
5 of 5This rumour certainly falls into the ridiculous category.
Corinthians star Paolo Guerrero was linked (via the Daily Star) with a big-money move to Chelsea.
Why It Won't Happen
Though Chelsea would certainly spend the Star's reported £30 million fee on a forward, it wouldn't be for Paolo Guerrero.
That's about it really. That type of money is reserved for Fernando Torres or Falcao.
The fact that Guerrero is 29 and not as prolific as any of Chelsea's rumoured targets for the position makes it even funnier.
Guerrero has featured for a big club in Europe before as he spent time at Bayern Munich. Nine goals in 21 games over two seasons tells the story there (statistics courtesy of ESPN Soccernet).
