In a perfect world, the 2013 Royal Rumble would give us a surprise or two. Maybe a new champion that hasn't been crowned before or someone from the back who comes out to the merriment of the fans.

It's not Christmas anymore, but we can wish and hope, right?

While you figure the winner of this year's event will have a tie-in to the WM 29 plan for mayhem, don't be shocked if there are a few changes with the script (something the WWE has come to be known for).

And if there is someone who actually captures the imagination of us all for three months. And while the list may be short of who could do that outside the usual suspects, there are a few who I think could surprise use all.

Chris Jericho

Does he return to the WWE? According to wresltinginc.com, there is no timetable yet as to if Jericho and the WWE will work out contract negotiations.

I think he shocks us all again in 2013 like he did in 2012, and this time, he is the last man standing in the Rumble.

Role reversal this time in his attempt to beat CM Punk or a program with Sheamus would be pretty awesome.

Jack Swagger

Another guy who could be a spoiler in 2013.

A new look, a new attitude and a new lease on popularity with the fans. I like it!

Swagger was miscast in his role when he came in. Based on his skills and his pedigree, he could be a lighter version of Kurt Angle or maybe someone like Jack Brisco.

Seeing him in a situation where he challenges Dolph Ziggler could be epic.

Kane

Does the WWE have enough confidence in him to give him one more shot at one of the titles?

I love Kane and since Big Show has been given the World Title, shouldn't we do the same thing with Kane, who looks like he won't be slowing down anytime soon?

Kane's title run, especially if it is part of a program with Big Show or Dolph Ziggler, would be welcomed by the WWE faithful.

Tensai

The gimmick does not work. And Tensai or Matt Bloom needs a huge makeover.

Chalk this up to timing.

As "Albert," he was a solid worker in the WWF. Now he needs to go back to his roots and find his niche.

Could he come in, tear up the joint and make himself a star again?

Brad Maddox

Somehow I think 2013 will prove to be something really special for Brad Maddox.

While he is jobbing for stars, it could lead to something huge in the long run. And no, this is not a thing where I believe he is jobbing like Heath Slater did.

Maddox has a great look and seems to be a decent voice on the mic. I also think he could be linked to The Shield.

Maybe a little fine-tuning from someone like Ric Flair could help.
