On his official Twitter account, former WWE world heavyweight champion Mark Henry has offered an update on his long-awaited return to the WWE—and hinted he will get involved in the storyline with The Shield.
Posting earlier today, he wrote:
What up? Yeah it's me still alive, I'm pushing to come back but that don't mean it will happen. Shield is p*ssing me off. Ass kicking is my job.
A great deal of doubt surrounds the return of Henry, who has been out since May after undergoing surgery on his shoulder. In December of last year, he spoke to WWE Magazine (via WrestlingInc) about his feelings on retirement, noting he wanted to recuperate from all his aches and pains and spend more time with his family.
In an interview back in June with HOT93.7 (via WrestlingInc), Henry remained noticeably vague on the subject of his return:
They say (I'll be back in) three months. Athletes always come back sooner than that. It's up to me. Right now, there's a lot of things on my mind as far as my career is concerned. I just have to get all that addressed before I think about coming back.
Of course, per his latest tweet, Henry now seems eager to return to the WWE and get in the mix with Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns in their current angle.
While many may feel that the former Olympian is past his prime and the company should focus on pushing younger stars like Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett and The Miz, Henry has proved in the past that he can be an asset when used correctly.
Certainly, his work in late 2011—when he got over huge as a dominant monster heel—showcased his potential.
It will be interesting to see how the WWE utilizes Henry upon his return...assuming he does return.
