Alabama Fan Shirt for National Title Game Pokes Fun at Notre Dame

Matt FitzgeraldJun 7, 2018

The Alabama Crimson Tide may be ranked one slot below the No. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish entering the 2013 BCS National Championship Game, but that hasn't stopped fans from talking a little bit of trash just under a month before the showdown in Miami.

Tide fans have created a shirt for the game that pokes fun at the Fighting Irish. It reads: "I'd Rather be Good than Lucky." The first "O" has the Alabama logo inside of it, while the "U" in "Lucky" has a clover to represent Notre Dame.

ESPN sports business reporter Darren Rovell tweeted out a photo of the shirt:

Perhaps the Alabama faithful have a point. Other than a home loss in Tuscaloosa to Texas A&M and Johnny Manziel—likely winner of the Heisman Trophy—the Tide have rolled through the rest of a difficult SEC schedule.

With signature comeback victories at LSU and over Georgia in the conference title game, Alabama definitely has a bit of a stronger resume than Notre Dame does.

As impressive and unexpected as Brian Kelly's top-ranked bunch has been, the Irish have definitely looked shaky at times.

An ugly 17-14 win over BYU and a three-overtime thriller over unranked Pittsburgh at home have been some of the bumps for the Irish along the way—although they do have wins at Oklahoma and over Stanford to their credit.

The debate will rage on until the big game is played, as it will determine whether the 12-0 Irish are indeed back among college football's elite. With a matchup that pits two of the nation's best defenses against each other, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Until then, all fans can do is speculate—and poke fun at each other.
