Montravius Adams to Auburn: Tigers Land 5-Star DT Recruit

Mike HoagJun 7, 2018

Montravius Adams, the 5-star defensive tackle out of Vienna, Ga., had plenty of suitors during the recruiting process. Ultimately, he committed to attend Auburn in 2013, according to 247Sports' Keith Niebuhr

At 6’4”, 310 pounds, Adams will definitely help bolster the Tigers' front seven by providing a matchup nightmare for their SEC opponents.

247Sports' composite rankings have Adams listed as the No. 10 overall recruit in the country and the third-best player at his position. It's no surprise, then, that he was also given offers from nearly every other competitive college football program in the nation.

That long list included Alabama, Florida State, USC, Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Michigan.

His athleticism is a big point of focus of most scouting reports, although he is not among the best of his peers in testing. He recorded a 5.31-second 40-yard dash, 4.95-second 20-yard shuttle and a 24.4 in the vertical jump, according to ESPN.com’s player profile of the defensive tackle.

Luckily, he makes up for it in the weight room and with his initial explosion off the ball. Adams’ max on the bench is 330 pounds and he maxes out squats at 485 pounds, according to Rivals.

Chad Simmons of Scout.com broke down what all of those measurables mean for Auburn:

"

Adams has a very good first step off the ball and he shows explosion consistently when you see him in action. He is still raw when it comes to technique. He can work on his pad level and his hand placement, but overall, he is about as impressive as they come on the defensive line. He has the size, athleticism, and motor that you would want to coach at a top program.

"

As a senior at Dooley County High School, the sought-after recruit compiled 10 sacks and 84 total tackles that included 45 behind the line of scrimmage.

Yes, 45 tackles for loss.

That is beyond even video game stats for a defensive tackle.

Overall, the Tigers are getting an anchor for their defensive front for the next three to four seasons. He will only get better, too, with help from the weight training and conditioning program of a major college football program.
