HOW THE BROWNS CREATED THEIR OWN CINDERELLA
Cleveland is full of factory workers and crazy Wahoo maniacs, but who would have guessed that among the mess of steel and smog that a Cinderella would emerge from the chaos people call Cleveland.

When the Browns were removed from their rightful place in Cleveland, many were devastated, but remained faithful and hoped that, one day, the team would someday return to the glory they knew—the Cleveland Browns.

Well the Browns returned all right, but not the way people thought they would, with their first pick, Tim Couch, an up-and-coming quarterback from Western Kentucky, so QB was out of the way, and the next year, they had the first overall pick, Courtney Brown.

So now that they had two cornerstones to build on, the rest of the team could take form, correct?  Wrong. Unbeknowest to Browns fans, Cleveland never had a chance.  Couch choked and Brown was constantly on IR.

Well, this mess the Browns called a team continued until the resignation of Butch Davis and the release of Couch that prompted a return, or even a great awakening.

The Browns started by buying a winner by means of coach. They selected Romeo Crenell, the defensive-minded defensive coordinator from the Super Bowl winning Patriots and placed him at the helm.

Next, find a new QB to build around. Well, the thought was to put Charlie Frye, a local boy, right out of Akron, under center and hope he would set things straight for the offense, but, yet again, the Browns failed to find the right QB, and, again, they were getting nowhere and fast.

The Browns then had nowhere else to turn but around to back-up QB Derek Anderson, who had shown signs of promise but failed to follow through in the clutch.  The experiment worked like magic.  Anderson found a promising future with the Browns when he signed a three-year deal just this off season.

But the hunt for a new QB began in the 2007 draft, when the Cleveland Browns selected Brady Quinn 22nd overall.  Quinn, who has shown nothing but promise at the position, is in the hunt for a starting role.  The fact is, the Browns can’t lose at the quarterback position with either choice.

The next change had to come by means of defense and confronting one of the worst D-lines in the game.  The Browns seemed to jump on every opportunity that arose.

When Corey Williams was cut by the Green Bay Packers due to money issues, Cleveland snatched him up. When the Bengals couldn’t follow through on a deal for Lions' lineman Sean Rogers, Cleveland jumped on it and made the trade.

Although the Browns have lost most of this year’s draft picks to trades or other deals, a 10-6 season looks almost too easy for this team.

  1. Dude,
    Get your facts straight...

"When Corey Williams was cut by the Green Bay Packers due to money issues, Cleveland snatched him up."

The Packers traded Williams to Cleveland for a 2008 2nd Round Draft Pick....

    1. Yup, the Packers had the money to sign but they didn't feel he was worth it. They slapped the Franchise tag on him and got a 2nd round pick for essentially nothing. Williams is certainly a good solid DT but he didn't fit Green Bay's D-line scheme well and Ted Thompson didn't feel he was worth $6 Mil a year or whatever the Browns payed him. Plus Justin Harrell came on strong once he was healthy. I think Williams will be a very good player for the Browns. He will be an asset to their 3-4 scheme. He is essentially a run-stopping DE. For the Packers, he was a pass rushing DT and that isn't what they needed from the DT position.

  2. Also,
Couch was drafted out of Kentucky, not Western Kentucky - big difference...

  3. I think the article was written to test our knowledge of obvious Browns facts. I'll wager another few corrections: (1) Lennie Friedman, Jamal Lewis and DA were all re-signed this year and not "added"; and (2) (while teetering on opinion) DA is going to be the presumptive starter in 2008, and will remain so if he has at least a semi-decent training camp and preseason.

In all seriousness, the writer's enthusiasm is obvious, but he needs to work on being more detailed and accurate with facts when writing about sports.

    1. No kidding. Why would the Browns give D. Anderson a hefty signing bonus and a multi-year contract if Quinn was going to start. That doesn't make any sense. Anderson was a pro-bowler last year. It doesn't make any sense to sign a Pro-Bowl QB to a multi-year deal with a large signing bonus only to have them as the #2 QB.

  4. DA will be the starter, and something will happen and things will work themselves out. You see, but bottom line is that Cleveland looks solid and should be a favorite to win the divison. The writers view of the city seem negative and everytime I'm in Cleveland I enjoy myself. Not everyone can live in CA.

  5. Thanks guys, I have just started writing online articles thanks for the help. Also, I am from Cleveland, but moved to VA. Everytime I'm in Ohio I always have fun as well.

  6. Keep on truckin greg....I don't see these yahoo critics posting articles

  7. Thank brother
