Bracketology Not an Exact Science

Has your bracket been busted yet? If yes, you're not alone.

We all have those little rules: always pick one 12, have a 13 or 14 in your back pocket, mascots, whatever.

Really, picking the perfect bracket is all about luck and maybe having a few voodoo dolls as well. Still, there's nothing better than rubbing something in that you picked but no one in your pool did (talking to the people who called George Mason in 2006).

There is no exact science because if there was, there would be no fun in all this. We have these quirky rules but they change every year. And I personally don't trust the mascot rule: that got me last place once.

No one doubts that last year has an impact on how you pick this year.

It seems every year there's less and less upsets every year. So guessing the upsets is like walking in a minefield, every once in awhile you find the right spot, but more often then not you've been blown to a thousand pieces.

And as for the guy who picked Radford to win it all, one question...were you counting on Ty Lawson's injury being THAT bad?

But this is what we love: creating unfixable division amongst friends because you don't think Louisville can beat Wake Forest, or Blake Griffin not playing like a superstar. We cram our brains long and hard to win a rich prize of about $60 from your pool.

Just remember that it's all in fun now that it's time to see how much of a psychic you are. If you can pick out all the first round upsets, kudos to you my friend. You have a crystal ball I must get my hands on.

Personally, my bracket is always done by the second round. I've only picked the champion once in about seven tries. So don't take your bracket advice from me unless you only want five of the Sweet 16.

So sit back, sip a Budweiser, and watch these young men play the game they love...and as of right now Western Kentucky has an 11-point lead. Go Hilltoppers! Pull me into first place for at least five more minutes. And after I finish this, they probably will lose.

Welcome to March Madness, everyone.

Victim list: me.
