WWE WrestleMania 29: Why Triple H Should Stay Retired
Welcome to the first of many WrestleMania 29 opinion pieces that I will be publishing right here in the home state of WrestleMania 29, New Jersey! After the effects of Hurricane Sandy here at the Jersey Shore (I live right outside Seaside Heights), WrestleMania 29 becomes even bigger than it was going to be here in Jersey. The positive effect that it will bring to the greater NY/NJ area will be much needed.
In this piece, I will explain to you why Triple H should leave himself off this coming WrestleMania event.
Each year after Survivor Series is said and done, I feel like "The Road to WrestleMania" starts to really take shape. Speculation runs rampant about who will be booked against who and who will win The Royal Rumble.
Next year, with the obvious inclusion of The Rock and Brock Lesnar to the card, there is really no reason for Triple H to compete in his 17th WrestleMania.
The storyline is obviously already set in place for a return match between Lesnar and Triple H, but is this something that any of us really want to see? Is it completely necessary for Triple H to come back to action after "retiring" just a few short months ago?
The last two years, Triple H embarked in two consecutive epic battles with The Undertaker. Many believe there was no reason to continue on after the "End of an Era" Hell in a Cell match earlier this year at WrestleMania 28. However, "The Game" needed to get himself in on the huge buy rate that a name like Brock Lesnar brings to the table.
And that is exactly what Triple H always does. Whenever someone is creating buzz within the realm of the WWE Universe, he needs to insert himself in on the action. It isn't necessary and shouldn't happen at WrestleMania 29.
A rematch with Lesnar would not only be a mistake on an already stacked card, but would take away from a possibly more intriguing match that Lesnar could have with an array of other WWE superstars. (This topic will be talked about in a future WrestleMania preview piece.)
Triple H doesn't have the same effect as other part-time wrestlers have when inserted into a special role at a big show like WrestleMania. Don't get me wrong: I thoroughly enjoyed his battles with The Undertaker over the past two years, but mainly because of the drama that involved the unbeaten streak from Taker.
If he absolutely had to be involved, I'd put him against Damien Sandow and help elevate him up the card. Much like Triple H did with Sheamus at WrestleMania 26, Sandow would definitely benefit from a big match with Triple H.
But that is only the "worst-case scenario" in my mind.
It would not bother me if Triple H completely stayed clear from WrestleMania 29 and served in a backstage role only…because quite frankly, that's all he is good for right now.
STAY RETIRED, TRIPLE H!!!!
