MU TIGERS: NCAA Tournament Preview

Adam SteevesCorrespondent IMarch 18, 2009

I love this game. I love this time of year. I love that Missouri is playing and not watching. I love picking the tournament and then seeing how it works out. I love this time of year.

I am a one bracket guy. I am a realist, so no Missouri is not going to win the tournament. Now, as a fan, if that happens I will be right there cheering them on. Not likely! Possible, but not likely!

Game #1: Missouri (28-6) vs. Cornell (21-9) - Missouri will prevail. Cornell has the guards to stay with Missouri, but depth and lack of an inside presence will hurt them. Missouri will take control in the second half and win by <10.

In the other game in Boise: Marquette (24-9) vs. Utah State (30-4) , Utah State will win in an upset. Marquette is beat up and the loss of James has moved them from contender to pretender. Utah will be playing in front of the home crowd because the campus is only four hours away.

Game #2: Missouri vs Utah State - Utah State will have an even bigger crowd at this game and they will be pumped up at the chance to make it to the Sweet 16. Depth will kill Utah State. For Utah State, eight players average more than 10 minutes, three average more than 30 minutes per game. Unless Utah State shoots lights out, the relentless defense of the MU Tigers will overwhelm them and ultimately lead to defeat.

Missouri will appear in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2002. They will head to Glendale, AZ to face the Memphis Tigers. In the battle of the Tigers, Memphis will prevail. Memphis is too deep and has too many skill players.

Missouri will end the season with a record of 30-7 and an NCAA Tournament mark of 20-21. A great season that will help in recruiting and will bring more success to a university that has not had much success lately.

What do you think? Am I right? Let me know. We can discuss it!
