Spring Practice, 2009: A Unit-by-Unit Preview of Colorado's Offense

Stuart WhitehairMar 15, 2009

Greetings, Buff fans, from CU at the Game!

I know it has been a few weeks since weโ€™ve been together with an update. I trust that you have been checking in periodically on the website to get the latest in Buff news, as I have been updating the site as events have warranted, with a Sunday recap of the weekโ€™s events.

Here is a scheduleโ€”cuatthegame.comโ€”for Spring Practice, 2009:

Sunday, Mar. 15 - A preview of each unit on offense. Will Cody hang on to his job? Is Markques Simas ready to dazzle fans in the stadiumโ€”and not just his teammates on the practice field?

Which five offensive lineman will be in the starting lineup come Sept. 5? Which of the running backs has the most to gain this spring?

Sunday, Mar. 22 - A preview of each unit on defense and special teams (no email update; Iโ€™m going to trust you to check in on your own).

Sunday, Mar. 29 - The Colorado Daily updates begin (with an email update to remind you!); A list of headlines we hope to see for each unit this spring.

Tuesday, Mar. 31 - Saturday, Apr. 25- Daily updates on the Web site, with recaps of the news concerning each unit on the team posted each Sunday.

Saturday, Apr. 25 - Spring game - Folsom Field - 1:00 PM.

Sunday, Apr. 26 - Recap of the Spring game (plus a look at the NFL draft, also taking place that weekend).

The spring practice preview of each offensive unit will take you some time to read, but there is more on the website posted today:

The Week that Was - Mar. 8 - 14. Who will Colorado play the weekend of September 12th? The answer remains a mystery,ย as Miami (Ohio) continues to try and buy its way out of its commitment toย play the Buffs.

The second-leading tackler for CSU, Ricky Brewer,ย has been suspended for all of the 2009 season. Missouri, which had maintained its staff in tact for years, has had to replace both coordinators.

The defensive coordinator was named this week, just as spring practice opened.

Archive Game of the Week-ย Weโ€™ll go with an oldie, but a goodie. Colorado v. Notre Dame, Jan. 1, 1991. Rarely has a game with only 19 points scored been so entertaining - and gut-wrenching.

Buffs and the NFL - The CU Spring game falls this year on the same day as the NFL draft (Apr. 25). In getting you ready for both, posted on the Web site today is a quick quiz about CU and the draft, as well as a look back at the number of Buffs who were on NFL rosters ten years ago and twenty years ago.

Many of you are already aware of the campaign to "Fill Folsom", not only with bodies on Apr. 25, but virtually as well. As a fund-raiser for the CU scholarship program, a "virtual fan" will be placed in Folsom for every dollar donated.

Here is a link to the cubuffs.com site, with information about donations, and a computer image of Folsom, showing how many "fans" have been donated:

If you havenโ€™t already contributed, I hope that you will consider doing so.

Go Buffs!
