Penn State-Indiana: Dave's College Basketball Picks (Mar.12)

(6) Penn State (21-10, 10-8) against (11) Indiana (6-24, 1-17)

Line: Penn State -7

Penn State closed out their Big Ten regular season with a 75-67 loss at Iowa in double overtime. Talor Battle led the way for the Nittany Lions with 26 points and 10 rebounds in the defeat, including 11 in the final two minutes of regulation to pull Penn State back even with Iowa.

Penn State finished the regular season in a three-way tie for fourth place with Ohio State and Wisconsin.

Indiana finished their long regular season with a 85-61 loss at Wisconsin. Indiana shot well overall (54.1 percent), but dug a 17-point halftime hole that they could not overcome.

I hate to keep mentioning this, but Indiana has lost 20 out of their last 21 games. We all know they are a young team, but their projected strength of schedule ranking is No. 3 in the nation. That’s a tough combination, but should have a payoff in the years to come.

Penn State is 14-10 against the spread including 6-6 on the road.

Indiana is 12-15 against the spread including 5-9 on the road.

Indiana has covered this number as an underdog just twice in their last eleven games. On the other hand, Penn State has only covered this number twice during the regular season conference schedule. While Penn State swept the regular season series between these two teams, the Hoosiers came within three points of winning on the road just a few weeks ago.

Since that game, Penn State beat Illinois by one and lost to Iowa by eight.  I don’t know if a Tom Crean “throw the records out the window” pre-game speech will fire up the Hoosiers, but I think they are battle tested enough to stay close in this one.

Dave’s Pick: Indiana +7
