Complete Player Ratings for Team USA Against Guatemala

0 of 4

The United States came away with a big 3-1 victory over Guatemala on Tuesday evening to lock up the top spot in the group and advance to the final stage of World Cup qualifying.

The USMNT went down 1-0 early, but roared back in the first half.

The defense came together in the second half and kept Guatemala off the board to secure all three points. It also prevented Guatemala from advancing to the next stage of World Cup qualifying.

After a strong performance by the USMNT, here are the complete player ratings from the match for Team USA.

Goalkeeper

1 of 4

    Tim Howard - B

Carlos Ruiz opened up the match by putting the ball past Howard in the fifth minute, but that was because the defense left Howard out to dry.

After that unfortunate incident, Howard kept Guatemala off the scoreboard for the remainder of the bout.

Howard can only do so much between the posts. The defense has to step it up and help him out. In spite of the early goal Howard still did well on Tuesday night.

Defenders

2 of 4

    Steve Cherundolo - C

    Geoff Cameron - C

    Carlos Bocanegra - C

    Michael Parkhurst - C

    As a whole everyone gets a C.

The opening five minutes were an abomination.

However, after letting in the goal by Ruiz they settled in and helped prevent Guatemala from getting back in the game. It still was not great, but after what we have all been subjected to in 2012 they get a passing grade for holding the lead.

Midfielders

3 of 4

    Michael Bradley - A

    Clint Dempsey - A

Bradley's importance to the team continues to shine, and Dempsey had a marvelous game in Kansas City. Dempsey came through with two goals and an assist. Bradley chimed in to assist on Dempsey's second goal.

Bradley and Dempsey are two of the most important players on the pitch for the USMNT. This game was a prime example of why.

    Eddie Johnson - B

    Graham Zusi - B

Johnson and Zusi did well on Tuesday evening. Johnson assisted on Dempsey's first goal in the match, while Zusi provided the corner kick on Bocanegra's. Both men have stepped up their game in the absence of others.

    Danny Williams - C

    Maurice Edu (78th minute substitute) - C

    Joe Corona (90th minute substitute) - C

Williams and the two second-half substitutes were satisfactory. There was not anything spectacular about their performance, but they did keep possession much better than in previous matches.

Forward

4 of 4

    Herculez Gomez - B

Gomez missed a few opportunities but ultimately performed up to task in the 4-2-3-1 formation. His performances in recent matches have earned him a starting role with the club, and that will continue to be the case as long as he continues his superb play.

    Sacha Kljestan (66th minute substitute) - C

Kljestan was subbed in for Gomez and was strong enough in his time in the match. He is more of a defensive sub and that paid off as Guatemala did not put any goals in during the second half. Nothing extraordinary.
