WWE Tag Team Division: What Happened to Cool Tag Team Names?

Riley KontekJun 7, 2018

Currently, the WWE is back to putting focus on the tag team division. This is a great thing, as the past few years the division was practically ignored.

Now, there is a tournament, the champs are the hottest act in the WWE and there are usually two tag matches with legit teams per night.

I do find one problem though. Where are all the cool team names that used to exist with legit tag teams?

Back in the day, though it makes me sound old, there used to be awesome tag teams like Demolition, the Road Warriors, the New Age Outlaws and the Outsiders. Those were all awesome team names that helped make those teams memorable.

What about now? The only tag teams in the WWE that gave a good team name are the Primetime Players and the Usos. They're good names that are memorable and label the tag teams well.

Other than those, I find the rest of the team names to be pretty bad. It seems like there was no effort put into it.

First off, some of the teams just formed start with the moniker "Team." That is just lazy and to be honest, sounds stupid. What is this, a birthday party, three-legged race team name?

Team Co-Bro, Team Rhodes Scholars and Team Hell No come to mind right away. These are all highly questionable names.

Now you may be saying, "The WWE fans voted on Team Hell No, so it's their fault." Well, to answer that, the three team names to vote on were all horrible names and started with "Team." So yes, it is still the WWE's fault.

Literally, the team name "Anger Management" would have been better than Team Hell No.

And Team Co-Bro? I get they want it to be a "clever" name, but put some more thought into than that. Off the top of my head, "Miracle on Iced-Z" would be a better name, and that is still a bad name. And that was off the top of my head!

Team Rhodes Scholars is another one where they wanted a "clever" name but it just sounds awkward. A name in Latin or something less obvious would have been better than Team Rhodes Scholars.

Then there are legit tag teams that were in the tournament that still don't have names. Primo and Epico are a full-time team and don't have a name. A name like the Puerto Rican Princess or Legado Dos ("Legacy Two" in Spanish) would do the job for this full-time team.

Kofi Kingston and R Truth were the champions and didn't even have a tag name. I guess not all teams need a name, but some sort of nickname would have been good.

Lastly, Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio look to be a hot team that will be together until early next year. While they likely won't need a team name, it would be cool if they did have one.

In conclusion, the WWE needs to think of more memorable tag team names for now and in the future. Otherwise, despite how good the teams are, they might be forgotten.
