Louisville Football: WR Marquez Valdes Picks the Cardinals

Jon HancockOct 10, 2012

Marquez Valdes, a 6'3" wide receiver from St. Petersburg, Florida, has committed to the University of Louisville, according to Brooke Bennett of BayNews9.com.

Valdes received an offer from Louisville in July. Louisville coaches also watched Valdes play last Friday night. He had offers from 12 different Division-I schools, including Toledo, Marshall, Iowa State and Western Michigan.

The 3-star receiver told Brooke Bennett of BayNews9.com why he picked the Cardinals: "It was the place that fit me best. I just had that feeling from talking with the coaches and watching their games."

Valdes is considered the 170th-best receiver and the 202nd-best player in the 2013 class from the state of Florida by ESPN.com.

ESPN says of Valdes:

"

Valdes is a possession receiver with natural, strong hands coupled with good body coordination. Has the size and athleticism for the wide receiver position at the major level of competition. His frame appears capable of supporting additional bulk over time; his quickness and all-out playing speed must also improve.

"

Last year, Valdes had more than 700 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. So far this year, Valdes is putting up decent stats, including a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown two weeks ago.

Valdes is the 10th 2013 commit for Louisville. He joins 3-star Corey Cooper as the only two receivers in the class so far. Louisville is a finalist for 5-star receiver James Quick from Trinity High School in Louisville, Kentucky.

Charlie Strong and his coaching staff continue to recruit the state of Florida hard. The Cardinals have 33 players on the roster from the state of Florida.

Louisville will likely look to grab more offensive linemen and some defensive players to close out their 2013 class.
