Arsenal and Chelsea have faced each other 176 times over their long history. Arsenal has taken 70 of those matches, while Chelsea has responded with only 54 wins, leaving 52 draws between the two teams. However, in its last five games, Chelsea has gone 3-1-1. Their last game was April 21 of this year, when they played to a scoreless draw.

Chelsea Breakdown

Chelsea has had an excellent start to the season and it needs to keep it going. With only one point separating Chelsea and Manchester United, it needs a win to keep that lead. Manchester United is going up against eighth-place Tottenham, a team it is 4-0-1 against in its last five games. It's safe to assume that the Red Devils will be winning their game.

To ensure that it stays ahead of Manchester United, Chelsea needs to get back to what it was doing in the first three games of the season when it was riding a three-game winning streak. Now, with two consecutive draws, it is in danger of falling in the standings.

Chelsea is coming off a big 6-0 win in the Carling Cup Tuesday. It will be looking to ride that wave of momentum as it is about to face a tough challenge in Arsenal.

Arsenal Breakdown

While Arsenal needed a late goal by defender Laurent Koscielny to salvage a draw against Manchester City this past Saturday, the club does have some momentum going for it as it crushed Southampton 6-1 in its previous game.

Arsenal has a big motivating factor coming into this game. If it can walk out with a win, it will be one point behind Chelsea.

Arsenal will be driven to win this game and will do all it can to make sure that it happens. A draw, or worse, a loss, is unacceptable in this game.

Prediction

Chelsea may be the top team in the league, but Arsenal's determination will be too much for it to overcome. It will be a close game, but Arsenal will come out on top.

Result

Arsenal 3-2
