2008 NFL Draft: What the Atlanta Falcons Really Need
People are saying the Falcons need Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, but they already have depth and talent at that position in Chris Redman and D.J. Shockley.
What they should be looking for in the first round is a talented tight end or offensive tackle, and there are a few I've had my eye on.
If they go the TE way, they could choose USC's Fred Davis who is nothing but a WR in a tight end's body.
Another great TE possibly available to them would be the huge 6'7" Brad Cottam of Tennessee. Even though he did not play much this season, this monster of a man displayed some true talent in the Senior Bowl.
If the Falcons don't decide to go the TE route, there are a couple good tackles they could pick from.
Jake Long of Michigan is the top tackle and has enough size and power to bolster the Falcons' offensive line immediately. This big guy could be a great resource with his fast feet and quick punch off the ball.
He'd fit into the Falcons' scheme perfectly.
Another great OT comes to mind: Ryan Clady of Boise State. He is a great pass blocker and is mentally ready to play with the big boys.
One other OT who would fit with the Falcons' run scheme would me the mammoth Jeff Otah. I can only describe his size as massive, but he is exceptionally quick for his frame and would match up well with the Falcons' running game.
