The Phoenix Suns Sign Stromile Swift

Avi ScherContributor IIMarch 4, 2009

The Phoenix Suns have added a big man that they have been missing since Stoudemire has been out with the eye injury (they could have used him with Stoudemire too).

Can this help?

The Phoenix Suns have signed PF Stromile Swift for the remaining of the season

Swift is 6’10, 29 year old and very athletic.

After you see his dunks and blocks you will probably say: how can it be that his averaging only 8.5 points , 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 block a game.

The reason is that his averaging only 20 minutes a game.

When you watch Swift play he will remind you a bit of Stoudemire, now wait, he can’t shot like Stoudemire, and he can’t take a player one on one like STAT, put he bring presence, having a player that can block a shot and change penetrates shots and grab some rebounds is what the Suns were missing.

Since Stoudemire’s injury the Suns have been playing small, having Barnes and Hill play 3 and 4. Of course this helps the Suns to run faster and it gives them four players that can handle the ball. But like always, the problem is the defense, and when the Suns play small the defense is even worse. If you saw the Boston vs. Phoenix game in Phoenix, you will know what I’m talking about.

Stromile has not yet played with a point guard like Nash, and as every player, coach, fan and commentator knows, Nash can make any player better.

So Stromile is smart, he will take this chance with all hes got and give it 120%, because the Suns have been looking for a player that can run and play some defense. And the way Coach Gentry is playing all the bench players, he will get playing time, so at the end of the year he could have found his next home for a few years.
