On Sunday, Sept. 16, WWE presented its annual Night of Champions pay-per-view from the TD Garden in Boston. The pay-per-view was centered on John Cena's quest to capture the WWE Championship from CM Punk.

Below are the complete match results and some thoughts on the evening.

In a pre-show match before Night of Champions aired live on pay-per-view, Zack Ryder won the battle royal to square off against Antonio Cesaro for the United States championship.

1. The Miz defeated Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara to retain the intercontinental title.

Confusion was the main factor in allowing The Miz to retain his title. Rhodes once again attempted to take off Cara's mask but failed.

The WWE did right to keep the belt on The Miz, as he is still fresh into his title run.

2. Kane and Daniel Bryan defeated R-Truth and Kofi Kingston to capture the tag team titles.

It was finally time to pull the plug on R-Truth and Kingston. The victory by Kane and Bryan puts new life into the WWE tag team division.

3. Antonio Cesaro defeated Zack Ryder to retain the United States championship.

Ryder has been appearing more often as of late on WWE television and was a nice pick to face Cesaro for the United States title.

This was a solid match that saw Cesaro continue his journey as the United States champion. Certainly, Cesaro has plenty to embark on in the future.

4. Randy Orton defeated Dolph Ziggler in a singles match.

A fine match that saw both Orton and Ziggler put on a solid showing. A good, satisfying win for Orton.

5. Eve defeated Layla to capture the Divas title.

Before the match, Kaitlyn was attacked backstage and could not compete for the Divas title. This enabled Eve to be inserted into the match and walk away with the victory.

Was Eve behind the attack that allowed her to compete against Layla?

6. Sheamus defeated Alberto Del Rio to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Hopefully, WWE will move on from the Sheamus-Del Rio matches. Sheamus has proven that he has Del Rio's number.

7. CM Punk retains the WWE Championship after a draw vs. John Cena.

This was a terrific main event to Night of Champions. With the draw result, Punk retains his WWE Championship and continues his long stretch with the title around his waist.

With the loss, will Cena get a rematch against Punk?

There are plenty of questions to be answered on Monday's Raw after this excellent match.
