In early September, Everton's Belgian midfield star Marouane Fellaini was mentioned in the Telegraph as saying that he could leave the club this January.

More recently this week, ESPN broke the news that the player could truly potentially leave the club if the right price is offered to Everton.

The unfortunate fact that the Toffee's have to operate on a small budget means that manager David Moyes could be forced into allowing his best midfielder to leave.

Having already lost Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill and Jack Rodwell in the previous transfer windows over the last 14 months only continues to see the club pushed into sale after sale.

However, if there is any club and any manager who can make the best out of the sale of a star player it is Everton and their brilliant Scotsman.

With a potentially busy January in the future for the club, here are six players that could be on David Moyes' short list to replace Fellaini.

Genoa's 28-year-old Serbian midfielder could be a great value signing for David Moyes should Marouane Fellaini be sold in January.

The player has not been linked with the English club but his potential has been seen in Italy and he could be itching for a new challenge in the English Premier League.

Adam Lallana

Southampton's young and talented English international, Adam Lallana could be a long term replacement for Fellaini.

Although he does not have the height of Fellaini, his versatility going forward would be a welcomed substitute.

Dries Mertens

PSV Eindhoven starlet Dries Mertens could be a major replacement for his Belgian international teammate.

Mertens would add an incredible finisher to the midfield as well as a sublime touch to the attacking third to replace what Fellaini has brought to the club in recent seasons.

Yoann Gourcuff

There are few players more in need of a move than Lyon midfielder Yoann Gourcuff. The constant injury issues that have plagued him at the French club cry out for him to take his show on the road.

England could be a great place to start anew and Everton would be a great place for him with a manager of Moyes' caliber.

Isco

Spanish youngster Isco has been lighting up the pitch for the cash-strapped Malaga of La Liga.

If the Toffees gain a strong profit from Fellaini they could perhaps lure the 20-year-old to Merseyside.

Markel Susaeta

Athletic Bilbao's 24-year-old Markel Susaeta has all the tools to be a hit in the English Premier League. He has many of the intangibles that could make him equally as good a replacement for Tim Cahill as for Fellaini.

It would no doubt cost a decent sum for his services, but his style of play would suit the Toffees well.
