Talk about a guy who likes to keep it fresh, it now appears John Cena has gone pink.
According to the BostonHerald.com, Cena will be donning a new pink attire in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
"The decorated pro wrestler, a product of West Newbury and 12-time World Wrestling Entertainment champion, is set to unveil his new Susan G. Komen for the Cure pink ring attire tonight at the TD Garden for the “Night of Champions” pay-per-view event. While most eyes will be glued to the wrestling action inside the squared circle, the real story with Cena is his work outside of the ring.
Cena will be wearing his new gear through October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month."
This is a pretty cool move, as only a hand full of wrestlers have recognized the month on TV. One star in particular was AJ Styles, who donned a pink ribbon on his tights at 2011's Bound For Glory. I personally, am a fan of wrestlers t-shirts having a statement or supporting a cause.
The last time Cena's attire made a statement was his 'Rise Above Hate" anti-bullying shirt.
Cena joins several athletes that will go pink in October, as both the MLB and NFL have made strides in supporting the cause. You may remember last year NFL players wore pink gloves and cleats in honor of the month.
In the end, this is just one more way for the WWE to garner some press and keep their mainstream push going. Which, to me, isn't a bad thing, as wrestling needs to move past it's negative stigma of being a sideshow.
