After several weeks of Manny Pacquiao holding off on confirming who his next opponent in the ring will be, we finally get word that it will most likely be Pacquiao vs. Marquez IV on December 8 in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand.
If this indeed comes off, then WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley seems to be the odd man left out of a big, super money-making fight...or is he?
Now that Floyd Mayweather is out of prison and still without an opponent for his next fight, one possible meaningful matchup would be Mayweather vs. Bradley.
Although many viewed Bradley's win in June over Pacquiao to be rather controversial, the fact remains that he still defeated the Pacman and took his WBO welterweight title as well.
So just imagine if the man who dethroned Pacquiao also becomes the first man to ever defeat Floyd Mayweather.
Bradley will go down in history as the man to beat both Pacquiao and Mayweather, and he will be the sole reason why Pacquiao vs. Mayweather never happened...or would he even help make that fight finally happen?
Let's just say, hypothetically, Bradley is so determined to redeem himself from all the flack and hate he received from controversially beating Pacquiao that he is extra motivated to defeat Mayweather next.
Legitimately, or controversially, let's just say Bradley pulls it off and beats Mayweather. Then both Pacquiao and Mayweather are facing losses and their fight will lose the same glamor and significance that it once held. So will both fighters finally suck up their pride and just make the fight that everyone wants to see happen after coming off of losses?
They probably would have no choice at that point. The public is already losing interest, and the hype and buzz seem to keep dying down day by day over the last few years as Pacquiao vs. Mayweather never came to fruition.
Do I personally feel Bradley can beat Mayweather? No.
Mayweather is simply just on a different level in terms of skill, talent, speed and intelligence over Bradley and pretty much most of the fighters of this era. But anything is possible in the sport of boxing.
Who should Bradley fight next then if it's not Pacquiao or Mayweather? I would say the best option would be the winner of the Danny Garcia vs. Erik Morales fight, or even Amir Khan.
Bradley vs. Khan was supposed to take place over a year ago for all the titles at 140 lbs. That fight is still a good matchup, seeing that Khan and Bradley already have the drama and trash talk between them established.
Bradley can also take on Zab Judah, who looked great and just like his old self against Vernon Paris back in March, in what would produce an exciting matchup.
The Maidana vs. Karass winner would also be another exciting fight for Desert Storm as well.
Bradley has a ton of good options for his next fight, but obviously the biggest cash cow would be Floyd Mayweather.
So why not go from the biggest fight of his career (Pacquiao) to the even bigger fight of his life against the No. 1 fighter in the world who can get him the most money in the world?
If Bradley shocked the world, then he can do it again.....hopefully this time with out controversy.
