Michigan State-Indiana: Dave's College Basketball Picks, Mar.3

No. 9 Michigan State (23-5, 13-3) at Indiana (6-22, 1-15)

Line: Michigan State -13.5

Michigan State won impressively at Illinois 74-66 Sunday in Assembly Hall. The win gives the Spartans a two-game sweep over the Illini and an opportunity to beat the last place team in the Big Ten to assure themselves of the conference regular season crown.

Dropping this game against Indiana may produce a more stressful finale against Purdue on Sunday.

Indiana is assured a last place finish in the Big Ten following their 61-58 loss to Penn State on Saturday. The loss was the seventh in a row for the Hoosiers and the 18th out of their last 19 games.

Once again it wasn’t the offense holding back Indiana, they just can’t stop anyone on defense. It is hard to lose 18 out of 19 as your going to have nights where the shots are falling, but they have somehow managed to not guard anyone and give up as many points that are needed to lose.

Michigan State is 14-11 against the spread including 7-2 on the road

Michigan State is 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 matchups against Indiana

Indiana is 11-14 against the spread including 6-6 at home

Although the outcome will not affect Indiana’s status in the standings, this is a high profile spoiler type opportunity. The Hoosiers just are too young and inexperienced to pull this one off.  Look for the Spartans to dominate the boards and for Sutton to have his way going to the basket.

Dave’s Pick: Michigan State -13.5
