NHL Trade Deadline Fast Approaching: List Of Potential Movers

Jason SwansonContributor IMarch 2, 2009

With the Deadline two days away, there are a lot of rumors floating around out there. Here's a list of potential players who may or may not have a new home Wednesday.

Let's start with Chris Pronger, there are few teams that are interested in Pronger. Two teams that I believe are at the top of the list are Philly and Toronto. I'm also hearing that the Blues are interested in Pronger, the Blues feel if they can put some depth on the blue line, they can challenge for a playoff spot.

Jay Bouwmeester, is one of the biggest names available at the deadline. There are a lot of teams that have been asking about Jay Bo, and what it would take to get him out of Florida. Front runners for Jay Bo I believe are the Rangers, Bruins, Leafs, Flyers, Oilers and Flames. L.A. has inquired about Bouwmeester's services as well. The Rangers have the most to offer for Jay Bo, it will be interesting to see how the Ranger's deal with their salary cap issues, will Gomez be on the move? The Oiler's could put together a good deal as well, but the problem with Edmonton is if they got Bouwmeester they would first have to lock him up long term, and of course he would get a hefty raise. Could Edmonton afford to have three defensivemen making between $6-7 million,  $20 million + on three players, that's a lot of dough.

Olli Jokinen's name is once again being rumored to be available at the deadline.  The Flames are showing interest here, as well as Montreal.  Jokinen would be a great fit in either cities, the only question is how will Jokinen do in the playoffs?

Erik Cole, has been playing better for Edmonton lately, however is that enough to keep him there? Maybe. Cole has playoff experience (won a Cup with Carolina), for that reason Cole may not be moving. Edmonton could use his experience and leadership right now. BUT, with Cole playing well it increases his trade value, so what does Edmonton do? I don't see Cole moving, but one name that has caught the interest of some teams is Dustin Penner. Rumor has it that Penner could be part of a package deal to the Rangers that would in turn bring Gomez to Edmonton.

Tomas Kaberle's name has been linked to Philly, the Sabres, and the Ducks.  It's rumored that Burke is mulling over some potential deals that have been put on the table. One name that could be on the move is Antropov + to the Canucks, in return Toronto would get Ohlund and a draft pick? Burke's goal this deadline is to obtain draft picks.

Some quick hits:

Are the Flyers shopping Briere? Speeza to Calgary for Regehr and prospect? Gomez for Penner, a top prospect (Robbie Schremp) and second-round pick? Ryan Smyth to Calgary for a second-round pick and a prospect? Possible return of Avery to the Rangers? Does Burke have a deal on the table for Kaberle? Rumor is Buffalo has made a major offer for him. Is Vinny still available........ hearing Montreal and Rangers are still trying to work on a deal to land him.

From now until the deadline I will continue to update on any rumors or trades that I hear. LOVE THE DEADLINE TRADES!!!

See ya soon
