A No Fun League Once Again: NBA Bans "Wade aids"
Once again, the NBA is acting like the NFL (No Fun League).
Prior to the Miami Heat playing the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night, the NBA told its leading scorer he could not wear a Band-Aid on his cheek, calling it a form of "self promotion."
Originally, Wade had the Band-Aid on to cover up a cut under his left eye. However, after one game with the traditional manila Band-Aid, he thought he could have a little fun with his slight misfortune.

He donned different designs on his Band-Aid including an American flag, his last name, and his nick-name (Flash).
Showing the celebrity he has fans, even other celebs started wearing his fashion statement to Heat games. This is where the NBA felt it had to step in.
For a league that is completely predicated on the marketability of individual players, the NBA have done their best to make every player into as much of a Stepford wife as possible.
No Hip-Hop! Though 85 percent of the players in the league come from inner-city, hip-hop backgrounds.
No individuality! Though the base marketing scheme for the NBA is different players' personalities (Showtime anyone?).
Iโm surprised the league didnโt make Allen Iverson cut his braids years before. Or that they didnโt wag the finger at Dikembe Mutombo for his famous finger wag . ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
Whatโs next โumm Mr. Lebron we are sorry but you canโt do your Talcum Toss pregame ritual itโs unbecoming of the league.โ
The point is that the NBA should embrace its players' individual efforts to bring attention to themselves and the league in which they play.
Just put a Jerry West on the next โWade Aidโ and voila! Money in David Sternโs pocket.
